is there a rule which dictates when that little weird sign (ъ) sounds more like a "u" and when it sounds more like an "a"? thanx in advance

it always sounds the same.. its just different people type it with different english phonetics.. but its always the same sound... the confusion comes since it does not have an exact equivalent in english.. hope that helps
