Default edith piaf l'etranger

hi there! below i have written the french and my understanding of the english translation from the internet, now i am sure that many parts are translated very strangley and that they are not right.
can somone who is fluent in french and english please review and edit.
there will be more questions after to follow on vocabulary or grammer if any one in interested!
thank you so very much!!!

Il avait un air très doux, It had a very soft air
Des yeux rêveurs un peu fous Eyes a little insane dreamers
Aux lueurs étranges. With the strange gleams
Comme bien des gars du Nord, as many guy of north
Dans ses cheveux un peu d'or, in its hair a little gold
Un sourire d'ange. A smile of angle
J'allais passer sans le voir I was going to pass without seeing it
Mais quand il m'a dit bonsoir But when he told me good evening
D'une voix chantante, of a singin voice
J'ai compris que, ce soir-là, I understood that this evening
Malgré la pluie et le froid, in spite of the rain and the cold
Je serais contente. I would be content
Il avait un regard très doux. It had a very soft air
Il venait de je ne sais où. It came form I do not know where

D'où viens-tu ? Quel est ton nom ? from which do you come?which is your name?
Le navire est ma maison. The ship is my house
La mer mon village. Sea my village
Mon nom, nul ne le saura. My name no on will not know it
Je suis simplement un gars I am simply a guy
Ardent à l'ouvrage burning with work
Et si j'ai le cœur trop lourd, & if I have the too heavy heart
Donne-moi donc un peu d'amour, thus give me a lillte love
Espoir de caresses. Hope of caresses
Et moi, fille au cœur blasé, and me, girl in the middle blase
J'ai senti, sous ses baisers, I felt, under his lisses
Une ardente ivresse. a burning intoxication
Il avait un regard très doux it had a very soft glance
Il venait de je ne sais où. It came form I don’t know where

Simplement, sans boniments, simply without boniments
J'aimais mon nouvel amant, I loved my new lover
Mon époux d'une heure. My one hour old husband
Comme bien des malheureux, as many unhappy
Il croyait lire en mes yeux he believed lira in my eyes
La femme qu'on pleure the women whom one cries
Et, follement, j'espérais and madly I hoped
Qu'au matin, il me dirait that in the morning he would say to me
Suis-moi je t'emmène. I am me take along you
J'aurais dit oui, je le sens, I would have said yes, I feel it
Mais il a fui, me laissant but It fled, leaving me
Rivée à ma chaîne. Riveted with my chain
Il avait un regard très doux. It had a very soft glance
Il venait de je ne sais où. It came from I do not know where

J'ai rêvé de l'étranger I dreamed from abroad
Et, le cœur tout derange and the heart very disturbed
Par les cigarettes, by the cigarettes
Par l'alcool et le cafard, by alcohol and the cockroach
Son souvenir chaque soir its memory each evening
M'a tourné la tête turned me the head
Mais on dit que, près du port, but it is said that, close to the port
On a repêché le corps the body was fished out
D'un gars de marine of a guy of marine
Qui, par l'amour délaissé, who by the forsaken love
Ne trouva pour le bercer did not find to rock it
Que la mer câline. That The sea caline
Il avait un regard très doux. It had a very soft glance
Il s'en allait je ne sais où it from went away I do not know where

I tried to make some corrections. I hope it helps.

Il avait un air très doux, It had a very soft air
...He seemed very gentle (avoir l'air=to seem like)
Des yeux rêveurs un peu fous Eyes a little insane dreamers
...Dreamy eyes, a little bit foolish
Aux lueurs étranges. With the strange gleams
...With strange gleams
Comme bien des gars du Nord, as many guy of north
... - guys -
Dans ses cheveux un peu d'or, in its hair a little gold
... - in his hair -
Un sourire d'ange. A smile of angle
...an angelic smile (angel, not angle)
J'allais passer sans le voir I was going to pass without seeing it
... - seeing him
Mais quand il m'a dit bonsoir But when he told me good evening
D'une voix chantante, of a singin voice
...with a musical voice
J'ai compris que, ce soir-là, I understood that this evening
Malgré la pluie et le froid, in spite of the rain and the cold
Je serais contente. I would be content
Il avait un regard très doux. It had a very soft air
...he seemed very gentle
Il venait de je ne sais où. It came form I do not know where
...he came from -

D'où viens-tu ? Quel est ton nom ? from which do you come?which is your name?
...Where do you come from? What's your name
Le navire est ma maison. The ship is my house
La mer mon village. Sea my village
...The sea -
Mon nom, nul ne le saura. My name no on will not know it
...My name, no one will know
Je suis simplement un gars I am simply a guy
Ardent à l'ouvrage burning with work
...passionate about his work
Et si j'ai le cœur trop lourd, & if I have the too heavy heart
...And when I have a heavy heart (i.e. when I'm sad, it should not be translated literally, I think)
Donne-moi donc un peu d'amour, thus give me a lillte love
...then give me a little love
Espoir de caresses. Hope of caresses
Et moi, fille au cœur blasé, and me, girl in the middle blase
...(I think there's an error here, 'fille au coeur blessé' = 'girl with a wounded heart')
J'ai senti, sous ses baisers, I felt, under his lisses
... - kisses
Une ardente ivresse. a burning intoxication
...(OK, but shouldn't be translated literally, maybe 'passionate dizziness'?)
Il avait un regard très doux it had a very soft glance
...he had -
Il venait de je ne sais où. It came form I don’t know where
...he came -

Simplement, sans boniments, simply without boniments
...'boniments' = marketeers talk ('eyewash'?)
J'aimais mon nouvel amant, I loved my new lover
Mon époux d'une heure. My one hour old husband
...my husband for one hour
Comme bien des malheureux, as many unhappy
...as many an unhappy one
Il croyait lire en mes yeux he believed lira in my eyes
...he believed he saw in my eyes
La femme qu'on pleure the women whom one cries
...the woman that one mourns for (??not realy sure of this line)
Et, follement, j'espérais and madly I hoped
Qu'au matin, il me dirait that in the morning he would say to me
Suis-moi je t'emmène. I am me take along you
...Follow me, I take you with me
J'aurais dit oui, je le sens, I would have said yes, I feel it
Mais il a fui, me laissant but It fled, leaving me
... - he fled -
Rivée à ma chaîne. Riveted with my chain
Il avait un regard très doux. It had a very soft glance
Il venait de je ne sais où. It came from I do not know where

J'ai rêvé de l'étranger I dreamed from abroad
...I dreamed of the stranger
Et, le cœur tout derange and the heart very disturbed
Par les cigarettes, by the cigarettes
Par l'alcool et le cafard, by alcohol and the cockroach
...'le cafard' = sad, melancholy mood
Son souvenir chaque soir its memory each evening
...my memory of him each evening
M'a tourné la tête turned me the head
...?? maybe 'turned me crazy'
Mais on dit que, près du port, but it is said that, close to the port
On a repêché le corps the body was fished out
...a body was dragged out of the water
D'un gars de marine of a guy of marine
...(the body) of a mariner
Qui, par l'amour délaissé, who by the forsaken love
...who, because of unrequited love
Ne trouva pour le bercer did not find to rock it
...couldn't find any other cradle ('resting place', or just 'bed' is probably preferable)
Que la mer câline. That The sea caline
...than the salt sea.
Il avait un regard très doux. It had a very soft glance
Il s'en allait je ne sais où it from went away I do not know where

Here's another version. Hope it's clear now. If you have any questions about vocab/grmmar then I'm sure someone would be happy to help.

ll avait un air très doux
He looked really sweet
Des yeux rêveurs un peu fous
Slightly mad, dreamy eyes
Aux lueurs étranges
With a strange sparkle
Comme bien des gars du Nord,
Like lots of Northern boys
Dans ses cheveux un peu d'or,
In his hair a hint of gold
Un sourire d'ange.
An angel's smile
J'allais passer sans le voir
I was about to pass by without noticing him
Mais quand il m'a dit bonsoir
But when he bid me good evening
D'une voix chantante,
In a sing-song voice
J'ai compris que, ce ]soir-là,
I knew then that, that evening
Malgré la pluie et le froid,
Despite the rain and the cold
Je serais contente.
I would be happy.
Il avait un regard très doux
He had a really sweet face.
Il venait de je ne sais où.
He came from I know not where.

D'où viens-tu ? Quel est ton nom ?
Where are you from? What's your name?
Le navire est ma maison.
The ship is my home
La mer mon village.
The sea my village
Mon nom, nul ne le saura.
My name will be known by none
Je suis simplement un gars
I'm a simple lad
Ardent à l'ouvrage
A keen, honest worker
Et si j'ai le cœur trop lourd,
And If my heart is too heavy
Donne-moi donc un peu d'amour,
Then give me a bit of love
Espoir de caresses.
Hope of caresses
Et moi, fille au cœur blasé,
And I, a girl with a jaded heart
J'ai senti, sous ses baisers,
I felt, under his kisses,
Une ardente ivresse.
A burning exultation
Il avait un regard très doux
He had a really sweet face
Il venait de je ne sais où.
He came from I know not where

Simplement, sans boniments,
Simply, without patter
J'aimais mon nouvel amant,
I loved my new lover
Mon époux d'une heure.
My husband of an hour
Comme bien des malheureux,
Like many unfortunate souls
Il croyait lire en mes yeux
He thought he read in my eyes
La femme qu'on pleure
A woman who leaves you crying
Et, follement, j'espérais
While, madly, I was hoping
Qu'au matin, il me dirait
That in the morning, he would say to me
Suis-moi je t'emmène.
Come, I'm taking you with me
J'aurais dit oui, je le sens,
I would have said yes, I feel it
Mais il a fui, me laissant
But he fled, leaving me
Rivée à ma chaîne.
Fastened to my chain
Il avait un regard très doux.
He had a really sweet face
Il venait de je ne sais où.
He came from I know not where

J'ai rêvé de l'étranger
I've dreamt of foreign lands
Et, le cœur tout dérangé
And, my heart all troubled
Par les cigarettes,
By cigarettes
Par l'alcool et le cafard,
By alcohol and the blues
Son souvenir chaque soir
His memory each evening
M'a tourné la tête
Made my head spin
Mais on dit que, près du port,
But they say that, close to the port
On a repêché le corps
They fished out the body

D'un gars de marine
Of a lad from the marines
Qui, par l'amour délaissé,
Who, abandoned by love
Ne trouva pour le bercer
Could find nothing to comfort him
Que la mer câline.
But the tender sea
Il avait un regard très doux.
he had a really sweet face
Il s'en allait je ne sais où
He went away I know not where
