Default Popular French songs

Hey everyone, i need a few really great examples of songs in French, preferably from France because I want to do a presentation on french music. I would REALLY appreciate it if you could give me a Pop song, a rock song, a hip-hop song, and any other popular music genre in france. I dont need the translation, just the song name and artist. Any extra information would be amazing. Thanks SOOO much

Hello.

For rock song you can talk about Noir Désir, that is a very good rock band in France, even if its singer, Bertrand Cantat, is today in jail. To me, Noir Desir's best songs are"Un jour en France" and "Fin de siècle".
There's another wonderful rock band called Dionysos! They even sing with the kills in their last album. Talk about "La petite fille aux seins écrasés" or "Déguisé en pas moi".

For hip-hop songs, let's talk about TTC, a crazy hip-hop band. They aren't very popular, but soo good! "En soulevant le couvercle" is a good song.
But the one of the most popular hip hop band in france is NTM, for exemple.

If you really want to talk about POPULAR french music, talk about something called "chansons à texte". In this type of music, lyrics are really important and the instruments are often minimalist. Most of the time, there's just a guitar or a piano. I think of Vincent Delerm and his song called "Tes parents" or Carla Bruni with "Tout le monde" .

And the "old" singers, like Alain Souchon with "Le zebre", Renaud and "Mistral Gagnant", Bashung and "Ma petite entreprise"....

There's a lot of different musics in France but I just gave you the name of the most popular bands.

I hope it will help you, and ask me if you want more informations.

Oh sorry I didn't know this software.
I think you can find these songs on e-mule.
But the songs I talked about are popular, but it's not the best music French people can do. Try to find MIG's songs, or gainsbourg (ok, he's really popular too) for exemple. THIS is good french music

Mmmh good question^^
I think it's the same, I don't know Limewire but E-mule is close to Kazaa. But don't you know e-mule? I thought it was an american software (well, maybe aren't you from the USA).
You can try on kazaa, too. I used kazaa before, and I don't know if it's because it was a french version, but there was a lot of french songs.
And I'm happy to see foreigner interested by french music, cause even if "we" are not exported a lot, "we" make good music

Regarding French music:
I would like to say that Enrico Macias has very good "older music" beautiful spanish guitar, gypsy kind of sounds, and a bit of middle east as well as some classic french café type of music.
I have enjoyed Michel Sardou and Enrico Macias for over 25 years now.

I studied in Paris last summer and I got to listen to a lot of really great music at cafes, etc. I really like Francoise Hardy. She's older but her songs are great and your classic 1960s Parisian. One of my favorite songs is "Tous les garcons.." and she has many others. She was a very popular french artist to the the french and int'l community so she would probably a great example for your presentation.

hello all
I'm old french and I can help you !
If you want to talk about french popular songs you should think to :
old songs that are popular in the World as : la vie en rose (edith Piaf) and Comme d'habitude ( claude François - covererd by Sinatra as "My way" !!!) Charles Aznavour (la bohème, je me voyais déjà)
french singer as : Johnny Halliday (old as Elvis Presley but still alive !!!)
Serge Gainsbourg (pop in the 70's reggae in the 80's)
Rock band : Noir Desir of course but also TELEPHONE, TRUST(covered by Anthrax : Antisocial)
Rap : I AM and Nique Ta Mère (that mean MOTHER****ER) are the 2 most popular band
after there is the "chansons à texte" you can talk about :
Renaud : manhattan /Kaboul, Miss Maggie...
Brel : les Bourgeois, Jeff, le port d'amsterdam...,
You just have to know that in French music, lyrics are more important than music !

After you also can say that french guys create some musical style. for exemple, Henri Salvador create the BOSSA NOVA, Disco was create in France by Cerrone and 2 producers who create a boys band named VILLAGE PEOPLE, and also Patrick Hernandez with is "born to be alive"

Actually there is a feedback to the "Chanson a texte " with some artist as Vincent DELERME, olivia RUIZ, La grande Sophie...

The only style that is not really present in the TV/Radio show is the Heavy Metal
but each time a Band come in France, the Show is sold out.
I can' t explain why Tv/radio Show don't give us more

I hope I have help you

Hi!

I know you asked for artist from France but maybe you could considere singers from Québec too...

Like Isabelle Boulay (Depuis le premier jour), Céline Dion (Je lui dirai), Garou (Sous le vent), Ariane Moffat (fracture du crâne), Jean Leloup (Isabelle).

Have a nice day!

Patricia

Rock Star, have you ever heard about Daniel Boucher, Martin Deschamps, Éric Lapointe, Offenbach, PLume Latraverse?

I don't know if you would considere it as ''hard'' but I like them! ))

Éric Lapointe last CD "1994-2006" n'importe qui, album compilation'' is the best to me because you can find a bit of everything for every mood...

Try to find it if you can. Veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy goooddddddddddd!

Ever heard of Anik Jean ''Junkie de toi'' ?

I am not to good with ''style'' since music to me depends of how I feel... but hope I can help others find nice stuff too.

Ah, Isabelle Boulay did a duet singing a song I'm quite familiar with, namely, Travailler C'est Trop Dur. For those not acquainted with it, here's the video:
