Sorry, safey. I'll be more careful. This is more British "fairy tale" or "legendary" lingo. Explanation:
"Either she is too good or . . . I'm gonna have to ride posthaste to Italy on my gallant white steed and sweep her off her feet!!!"
About Laura P., safe1 says: "Either she is too good or . . . I, as her knight in shining armor, will immediately jump on my stunning white horse, gallop to Italy, and Laura P. will be so taken with my gallantry, that she will helplessly fall in love with me."
Does that help? I'll try not to use lingo (though I didn't think of this "legendary" style as lingo really) in the future unless I include Frankie's Definitions. Sorry . . . :S
Hey, guys! When I posted this song, I called out to BG to please listen. I played it as loud as I could on my laptop and said, "This is dedicated to you....!" He said, "What?! I couldn't hear you. I was listening to my i-pod. . . . OH! Norah Jones! That's who I'm listening to right now!! Thanks!"

carpooled with gf today and she also has a great sound system and a hard drive in her radio, and she played this song and i 'd forgotten how much i LOVE it, music and the lyrics....vocal begins at 3:22...
Yea....
You'll always be my baby
I'm always thinking of you baby
Yea.....
Touch me in the morning
and last thing at night
Keep my body warm baby
you know it feels right
take it a little higher
I'm thinking it too
Tell me what you're feeling
I'll feel it with you
We can only understand what we are shown
How was i supposed to know our love would grow
Come a little closer
Sure must be nice(?)
Heal me with your loving
i need you so much, i need you so much, i need you so much
Yea....
Touch me in the morning
Yea....
You'll always be my baby
I'm always thinking of you baby
Yea....
Yea
Touch me in the morning
and last thing at night
Keep my body warm baby
you know it feels right
take it a little higher
I'm thinking it too
Tell me what you're feeling
I'll feel it with you
How was i supposed to know our love would grow
We can only understand what we are shown
How was i supposed to know our love would grow
You touch my mind in special places
And i'm gonna risk it with you
I'll take your love and i'll take my chances
And i'm gonna risk it with you........

But seriously: Today I got a teaser of the song below in youtube messaging, and then I found a full-length version.
It's just a"cheery" kind of song, and with the name "Heroine" ... the person, not the drugbut on the subject of womanhood, I could go both ways with that...
I never have the purpose of viewing a woman as merely delicate, or just a frail pretty flower that needs to be protected... never "just" that... This is mostly to say that Woman is Man's most precious solace and salvation in this ugly, vicious, ****ed up world. And just by the way... think Rihanna... any man who would hit a woman does not deserve to be called a man. Speaking for others as well as myself: You only deserve the very best I can give you all the time, because every day, you save my life.
Just a light-n-happy song (with a great title), coz this is how she always makes me feel.
Tus ojos llenan mi alma con sueños....
And your kisses make them all come true.
not true...
I hit a woman once, I slapped her. My slap was so light and insignificant, because i didn't even know how to slap her properly. (yes i'd wish to know...but my palm had no experience to this...)
She was caught "being" ... "unfaithful".
(well i know, the common answer to this is usually: "ignore her and walk away"... Sorry but Greek men don't ignore such things. That kind of passive reaction to problems like this, is to be found in other cultures maybe, but not in mine...Yeah I will insist on that...just take it or leave it)
What would you do in my position?
If that woman didn't deserve a slap, then no woman deserves a slap... then slaps are meant to happen only on men cheeks...
Is that the issue?![]()

Well, i'm not aware how popular this lady was/is in U.S., U.K, and the rest of the commonwealth + the rest of Europe, but,
in Greece she is known as one of the best white soul voices ever appeared in the music industry..
Guess what... I agree.
Lisa Stansfield - The very thought of you
hats off...
The very thought of you
The very mention of your name
Ooh babe
Babe I'm caught on you
I just wish you felt the same
Ooh yeah
'Cause baby I hope and I pray
You'll beg me to stay tonight
Oh oh oh
'Cause the very thought of you
Is keeping me alive
The very thought of you
It sees me through, it keeps me going
Babe I'm caught on you
You're all I see and all I know
Can't you see just what you're doing to me baby
The very thought of you is enough to drive me crazy
And the very thought of you
Is keeping me alive
Every Monday I see ya
Can't wait for you walking by
I'm obsessed and I need ya
Going out of my mind
I can't rest 'til you're near me
No I can't wait 'til I see that smile
Ooh I'm in a mess and I mean it
I'm going out of my mind
And babe
I hope and I pray
You'll beg me to stay tonight
Oh oh oh
I won't give up the fight
Cause I need your lovin'
The very thought of you
It sees me through, it keeps me going
Babe I'm caught on you
You're all I see and all I know
Can't you see just what you're doing to me baby
The very thought of you is enough to drive me crazy
And the very thought of you
Is keeping me alive
We used to be lovers
Now all we are is the best of friends
It's not enough
Just to talk to you
I want to hold you again
And baby
I hope and I pray
You'll beg me to stay tonight
Oh that's right
I won't give up the fight
Cause I need your lovin'
The very thought of you
It sees me through, it keeps me going
Babe I'm caught on you
You're all I see and all I know
Can't you see just what you're doing to me baby
The very thought of you is enough to drive me crazy
And the very thought of you
Is keeping me alive
Oh
Can't you see just you're doing to me baby
The very thought of you is enough to drive me crazy
And the very thought of you is keeping me alive
The very thought of you
It sees me through, it keeps me going
Babe I'm caught on you
You're all I see and all I know
Can't you see just what you're doing to me baby
The very thought of you is enough to drive me crazy
Baby, babe
The very thought of you
It sees me through, it keeps me going
Babe I'm caught on you
You're all I see and all I know
The very touch of you
The very feel of you
Oh babe, your driving me insane
Your keeping me going baby
Keeping me going
Keeping me going
Keeping me going
Keeping me going
Keeping me going
Keeping me going
Keeping me going
It's you, it's you

i'm sure that he meant that for my benefit bcs of what happened to me 4-1/2 years ago, smth that i just barely survived and only bcs God put His hand on me and gave me a little more time. but in the U.S. the laws are very strict, altho the circumstances are always considered.

He? who?
------------------------
...just before goodnight...
She is coming to get you..
when?
at your seventh life of course (?)
Take a good look at me
Do you like what you see
Am I mystery
Or do you remember me
I've come to win the game
I've come to make my claim
You'll take me home again
You're gonna remember me
You held me in your arms
You kept me safe and warm
You wrapped me up in charm
Then we said goodbye
Now I'm coming to get you
And you'd better believe me when I Say that
I'm not gonna let you go
'Cos the moment that we met I knew that that was that boy
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/l/lisa+st..._20252539.html ]
From my point of view
I still imagine you
So fresh, so totally cool
I've got a good memory me
I can't forget that smile
You and your sense of style
I've traveled miles and miles
So you're gonna remember me
Oh you could say we failed
A hiccup in our tale
But that ship never sailed
When we said goodbye
So I'm coming to get you
And you'd better believe me when I Say that
I'm not gonna let you go
'Cos the moment that we met I knew that that was that boy
So hold me in your arms
And keep me safe and warm
Just wrap me up in charm
Never say goodbye
'Cos I'm coming to get you
And you'd better believe me when I Say that
I'm not gonna let you go
'Cos the moment that we met I knew that that was that boy

Because my Greek friend doesn't understand the 1/2 row version! (But that's OK, safey!) Explanation takes up more lines than a cultural reference that was not easy for a non-English person to "get."
As for me, I am struggling to learn something about Greek 1st names, Mr. "i"!!! :S
Bear with me, friend.![]()
Have you learned since?
Yes it's a matter of culture ... and personal idiocracy/character.
It is ALSO a matter of age. (I guess this happened to you, a long time ago)
But I also have to say that slapping a woman isn't THAT ordinary in a Greek man's lifetime...
Only talking about Greek women...
If you wanna stick with her then you have to slap her, and slap her HARD!
But you have to be prepared to live with her for a long-long time
which is a DANGEROUS thing!
And yes there are times that humans may be more filthy than when being sexually "unfaithful".

Amethyste, you know me too well . . . ! No, sir--I might suggest such a thing or ask permission to share such, but "I will not copy and paste any safey/Amethysto quotes about slapping women into the 'Customs' thread! On my honor!"
However, I must admit to following this conversation with a bit of surprise, more than usual curiosity, and lots of questions floating through my head!!

* Who, BTW, not so many years ago would have slapped the "offending other 'genteman'" with his glove, arranged then and there a time and place for a duel, and one of the men might have died. Ahhhhhh, cultures! Will we ever understand one another! Men and women! Will we ever stop hurting one another?! :S :l
Thanks Frankie, and amen to that.
If a woman was shooting at me I would shoot back. Self-preservation. But I was once faced with a situation where I loved the woman so much that I could not lay a hand on her at all. I walked away from it coz otherwise it could've gotten worse. Time handled the rest (and we're close friends now). Tess was the victim of a stalker who was sent to jail for a long time....we hope. Big differences of opinion here, I shouldn't have opened my big mouth. But I can't stand it when I see a woman stay and stay and stay with an abusive man.
This is what I'm talking about. Tears my heart all to pieces.
As far back as he cares to remember,
He used to see his old man lose the temper
And mama's pretty face would catch it all,
On a regular basis the nest would fall.
But he was always safe from dad's rage,
Cause mama sacrificed in his place
Two-dozen years of the blood, sweat, tears,
Avoid the mirror, losing her hair from the fear
She never left him, stayed inside
He beat her *** up until the day that he died
In fact, the biggest beating was the day that he died
Cause now it's too late for her to make a new life
She gets to mourn for the touch of a punch,
Won't ever admit that she aint clutchin it much,
Someday she'll die, it still won't be done
The anger lives on through their son.
Cause he saw, he caught it all
A childhood of watching ma and pa get raw
It's too bad for him, nah, that's half the truth
'Cause you back with him now and he's smackin you
What happened to you? You don't have a clue.
Did your mama used to suffer accidents too?
I never knew that you would stand for abuse,
I guess I just assumed that you would pack up and move.
Think about when you left him last time,
Said out loud that you would never forgive past crimes,
Sunglasses, so dark, scarf around the neck to cover the choke marks.
And since you gotta justify returnin,
You convinced yourself that he's just a hurt person.
You wanna blame that cross he bears,
But his pop's not there when he tosses you down stairs.
Let me be the last to say,
Please don't stay.
Let me be the last to say,
You won't be okay.
Please put your shoes on and step into that warm weather,
Go get yourself a more better forever.
Gotta put it down, you gotta leave it,
And don't ever come back again, you gotta mean it.
Just tear it all apart and build new,
Cause if you don't kill him, he's gonna kill you.
You can't hold hands when they make fists,
And I ain't the first to say this.
But let me be the last to say,
Please don't stay.
Let me be the last to say,
You won't be okay.
Let me be the last to say,
Please don't stay.

Some people would say that people like me have become over-civilized. But just for the record, if I was ever alone with that guy from Tess's history... he is or was a a 6'4 body-builder with 50-60 pounds on me, but I would beat the **** out of him with a baseball bat.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Or, rather,
"Oofffffffffffffff!!!!!!!"
Moon.
Many tears.
Many fears.
Many years
To deal with the pain. . . .
It never ends.
The cycle reappears.
This is, indeed, an American problem (and many other countries too, no doubt). This is the frame-of-reference from which we react to "slapping a woman." In our culture, first women and children are hit with bad names. Then they are hit with verbal attacks, then verbal threats. Then they are hit with verbal threats accompanied by a little shove or rap on the shoulder or smack on the head. Then everything escalates to the vivid pictures of the song-video you shared above--and far worse. The words to that song are excellent and true. This will help our ATL friends understand the tortures and family prisons we have endured and react so strongly to.
I was right. You are a dying breed, the true Southern gentleman. Your form of "duel" would be to give in return to the violent man what he did to the one you love. That remains the old-fashioned, honorable way. Your feelings are acknowledged and understood. The result is similar, however, to the duel . . . the woman (because of due process of modern Law) might have to pay another price--of losing her beloved man to punishment and imprisonment and perhaps death by the State.
So . . . things have not really changed so much for the Southern Gentleman today compared to the days of dueling. Of course, in this case, your beloved did not betray you; she herself was betrayed (to vastly understate it) by another man's brutal violence. If she ever lost you on top of that, . . . she would be victimized all over again over her loss of you. (I know you know this. But I also know you would protect her with your very life, and this is an admirable thing. I hope my husband would do the same to protect me from harm, if it evil ever came face-to-face.)
Thank you for the true, sombre song.
Whereas--and I cannot be sure--but I gather that the Greek slap of the woman is not a punishment. If I am picking up on the cultural thing (and anyone may correct me), the slap (in this case to the woman) says: "You have betrayed me; but you are still my wife; you will remain my wife. Things will not be easy for either of us, but we will still be together." Perhaps if no slap is given, the woman is forsaken, separated from or divorced, irreparably. POSSIBLY, that would be a worse punishment for the woman in such a case; I don't know that culture.
I do not think the Greek "slap" is the beginning of abuse, as we are familiar with it. Truly, this must be a total different cultural experience. But you and I and many others in the U.S., cannot help but react to the thought of corporal punishment of a woman by a man with disgust and abhorrence . . . because of what it means in our own culture. (I'm not telling you anything you don't know; but maybe I can help express why our reactions to such an action are so very strong. Your video speaks for the situation very well.)
