I suppose I assumed that intricate knowledge of Russian violinists and guitar troubadours also meant intimate knowledge with the Russian language .... ... but I guess, like me, I have tremendous appreciation for many things Russian, but I can still only speak/remember/understand about 30 words without help

And yes, so full of feelings and believe me, of all the "foreigners" I've ever met in the USA, in truth, Russians (and Ukrainians) are often the easiest to know and like. At least the younger people, but some of the older ones I've met are a little too ... cautious ... not so easy to know, understandably. But still nice, or even very nice and very courteous. The rest of the American world (and etc) should learn something from that
