FOOD! Favorite domestic and foreign dish?
I can't believe that nobody talks about FOOD on this site! So, name your favorite food here! Or pick a category, and name several favorites:
Favorite local food
Favorite food from another country
Favorite pastry or bread
Favorite dessert or sweet
Favorite drink, with or without alcohol
So I'll start!! ..... just give me a minute to think about it .....

Favorite food from another country: Chicken marsala!
Favorite pastry/bread: Turkish Ekmek! (do I spell it correctly??)
Favorite dessert: Tiramasu! ......... and cheesecake ..... and chocolate covered almonds ...... and ...... oooooh man, I can't make up my mind .......
Favorite drinks: Pepsi! And Tecate!
Et tu? ...

HI Jandros,
I agree with you with Tiramisu, but it maust be made with a typical italian recipee. (I hope I wrote it right).
My mom´s Galaktoboureko (greek pastry) is the world´s best!
As I live in germany I have to say that german sausages and different kind of breads are very very very good. We have ahuge variety of them.
I don´t have special wishes concerning drinks - pure cold water on a hot summer day can be very fulfilling.
...now I am hungry....

Tahira, yes, hungry!!!
I love sausages, and my father used to make some of the very best. But my first international exposure was German sausages (and potatoes) in Frankfurt. Delicious!!!
And from Germany to the east: kielbasa, kolbasi, I love all of it! Our local Olive Garden restaurant makes "sausage and peppers rustica", with green, red and yellow peppers (the large bell peppers, not hot) ...... oh my God ..... I usually have it with a big glass of cool water and lemon
Tiramisu ... I never spell it correctly, so thank you ... strangely, the best that I've ever had is prepared by a friend from Iran, who owns a great Italian restaurant in Dallas, TX. His tiramisu is so light, you have to really pay attention as you eat it!

Kolbasi, is originally an hungarian kind of sausage. But I love it, too.
The "true" tiramisu is made with fresh eggs and mascarpona (a white cheese which comes close to the cheese you use in american or german cheesecake)
When you have been to Germany didi you try then Sauer*****? I like it very much as well. It´s a heaavy food for wintertime. I know that we germans are called the "*****s" by foreign pople when they talk bad about us.
So, where are all the our other members? For talking about food.
I remember we discussed once greek food in the "greek section" of this forums.
bye-bye, Tahira

I'm sure the computer has good intentions, even if they're misplaced ... I know what you wrote, and yes, it's very unfortunate that some people use it as a slur.
Yes, I tried it, because it seemed to me that I couldn't eat one without the other, and so I ate a lot of sausage and Sauerkrowt and potatoes. It was in November, so it was great, perfect! My mother also had a very good recipe for it, but of course the original German is the best.
I also love a Reuben sandwich: Rye bread, corned beef, sauerkrowt, swiss cheese, and gourmet mustard. It's heavenly
Yes, we need more comments from others! Or you and Jester and I will just sit here and get fat, all by ourselves ....

Chinese food is fried and pretty low in carbohydrates (unless you eat only rice and noodles... you're getting fat on your own.

Generally I like chinese food, too. But I found out that many restaurants use some additional "stuff" for the taste and from these I get very heavy stomache ache. So I avoid going to chinese restaurants.
Thank good I do not have to care about low carb food. I can eat a lot without getting fat. I hope this lasts for a long time...

You're right Layla.
For me, from what I have so far tried:
Food: Hungarian Goulash, Turkish fish & salads, Chinese stir fries, Italian fettucine al pesto.
Dessert: baklava (whether Turkish or Greek, it does not matter!), Italian Tiramisu (had best one in Istanbul), Hungarian cholocate cake x 6 layers!

In the U.S., monosodium glutomate (MSG) is often added to Chinese (or Japanese?) food. It enhances flavor....
But .... actually, as I understand, MSG does not directly enhance flavor .... as I understand it, MSG is actually a drug (not an herb or food product) which makes one THINK that the food tastes better ..... or something like that.
Anyway Tahira, I can certainly understand it might not agree with your tummy.
I love Seschuan (spelling?) with nuts and stuff
Hungarian goulash! It's been so long, I forgot about it ..... I am soooo hungry .....
Istanbulgal: Layla mentioned juices. In Turkey, there are fruit juices in bottles? Thick, heavy .... I used to love them! What are they called??

Here, here Adrienne. We also make "Сърми" There are two types. One covered by a Vine list, and one Covereb by a Cabbage list. Inside we put rice and grounded meat. Looks like that (Don't mind the orange thing that is shown on the picture, I belive thet overdid the red pepper and the rice became orange

It sounds delicious!!!
English "grounded" ... in this case, just say "ground", which is the past tense for "grind". Grounded means attached to the ground, earth.
In the U.S., we buy a "pound of ground round" ... round steak, which is often used to make ground beef.
