Dear ATL Friends,

My family and friends, thus far, are safe.

Our area of the country = Kentucky, Tennessee, Southern Indiana - is being hit by tornadic supercells. So far 50 confirmed tornadoes (this means not just a funnel cloud, but that it actually has hit the ground) in Kentucky.

Nearby Southern Indiana = some small towns obliterated / 5 confirmed dead / entire homes and people are missing / a few are injured. Most people knew ahead of time. They took shelter.

All of our family and friends are safe. However, more tornadoes are coming to Kentucky and Tennessee soon.

A few tornadoes were 1/4 and 1/2 mile [2.0 - 2.4 kilometer] wide. Sky was dark with debris, hail. Speed of some tornadoes 70 mph / 116 kilometers per hour.

The National government has sent in "Homeland Security" and medical back-up to the area. Just now, it is at sundown . . . It will be so much harder to find people in the dark. Many are without electricity, but so far we have power.

Two of my grandchildren were held with all the students at the schools to keep them safe. They have been returned home now. Safe & sound!
