Tsifteteli isn't a greek dance, it's oriental. I don't know where did it come from, but we learned it from Turks. Also, Egyptians dance tsifteteli. Now this dance is a part of Greek reality, but it's not Greek.

These are my favourite Greek dances:

1. Ikariotikos
2. Syrtaki
3. Hasapiko
4. Zeibekiko
5. Pendozali
6. Pirihios
7. Baidouska -> Great dance but here these girls don't move their hands

The word TSIFTETELLI for oriental dance ist only used in Greece.
In egypt the classic oriental dance is called RAKS SHARKI and there are some folkoric ways, like Hagallah, ghawazee dance, and dances to Saidi Rhythm... and many more.
I could post some links as well, but these would not match the thread GREEK dances but only middle eastern dances.

Have a nice day, Tahira

mmmm...
from that list Maria, I love a lot Syrtaki and Hasapiko. Well... I'm proud that I know Syrtaki and tonight I'll be dancing it and more gr. songs. in this night it's 100% to be the inventr of many many dances after I drink some wine and champagne.
Anyway, all the link are welcome but my girl (not mines, just from my video) are dancing mmmm...

Tahira you may put here some other dances, but note them as not beeing Greek.

Hapy New Year girls and more luck in everything (I wake up 10 minutes earlier, not very smart in this time) :*

Thumbs up gia Maria .

Btw Maria, I have found a song, but I don't know who sings it . It's impossible to don't dance when you're listening to it.
I'll send it to you via e-mail.

Last Weekend they have offered here in our town a workshop for greek dances. I know this teacher/woman; she was very active in our town when we have had a big greek community. She is studiying greek dances for at least 20 years. And I decided now to take part in her classes. It's only 10 hours, so you can just get an idea about greek dances. And for a long time I have had the wish to learn greek dances to enlarge my knowledge about dances. And now I´ll take the chance.
