Very nice idea!
Looking on that small list of mine I
know there are new picutrisations of my favorite books but I don't like movies about books at all.. so I haven't seen them
I love Fantasy books while I quite detest
Harry Potter and
The Lord of the Rings and do not really like Fantasy movies in general. I think: "A book is no good without a dragon as the main lead"

And books with less than 600 pages are no books, they are mere short stories
His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman; they are three of the best books I ever read! These books were written for youths but they are gripping far beyond this age. Once I start with the first sentence of
Nothern Lights I can't stop reading until I finished the first book.
Inheritance Trilogy - Christopher Paolini; I discovered Eragon some years ago where nobody yet used to know the author and I really liked it

he's still young and I am very excited what he will come up with in some years when the Inheritance Trilogy is finished!
The Bartimaeus Trilogy - Jonathan Stroud; While I don't see anything good in his other novels, Stroud's Bartimaeus is quite something!
The Chronicles of Narnia - C.S. Lewis are ok with me, very nice books worth reading - especially for children.
Beyond that I lately enjoyed reading
How to Talk to a Widower by Jonathan Tropper, it's sort of a male version of
P.S. I love you, little more entertaining and quite nice.
I also like pretty much everything
Nick Hornby has come up with over the years, he has a very entertaining style
