Question Looking for a Greek book

Hi,

I am going to visit a good friend in Greece next month and I would like to bring her a book. A book would be nice because she likes literature, and I would be able to write her a little note on the first page. Seems like a good idea, no? :P

The problem is which book to choose. I live in Amsterdam so it is very hard to come by Greek literature. Things are even more difficult because I don't speak any Greek. So I will have to find a suiting book online... and this is where I hope somebody could help me :P

I know that she loves this book: ΑΛΚΥΟΝΗ ΠΑΠΑΔΑΚΗ - ΤΟ ΧΡΩΜΑ ΤΟΥ ΦΕΓΓΑΡΙΟΥ
In fact I am pretty sure she has almost all books of that writer. So I am looking for something that has a similar style. Which is, if I understand correctly: Dreamy, fairytale like...but with a deep message that makes you think about life.

Since she already has many books from that writer I am looking for other writers who might have this style. Would somebody here have any idea where I could find more information about these things? Or maybe a suggestion for a book or writer?

Thanks so much for the help!

I totally agree with Katia, Χρύσα Δημουλίδου is a great writer (from my city too ) and the book Τα δάκρυα του Θεού is really wonderful. Ι've all of her books and I can say that they're all great. Her latest book is called Το φιλί του δράκου and it's also good. But who knows, your friend may has already read them. You should first talk to her about her favourite books or ask her to recommend you some greek books she have read and she liked. Some other books that I recommend are: Ονειροπαγίδες by Μπογιατζόγλου Δήμητρα which is published again by Λιβάνη editions, Ηλέκτρα by Βίκυ Στουφή (Λιβάνη editions) and Επιστροφή από τη λήθη by Λεωνίδας Χατζηνικολάου (Νέα Σύνορα Editions).

Kalispera girls, thank you very much for your help! Appreciate it! Ke Καλὸ Πάσχα!

I went to one of the biggest book stores here, and guess what...it will take like 2 weeks to order any Greek books. Since I will be leaving for Athens next friday thats not gonna work :-(

There would basically be one last chance - I might have about 2 hours idle time on my hands when I arrive. So I could take the Metro and visit a local book store. Would there be any (big?) book store that is easy to reach by Metro for a guy who doesnt speak any Greek? Haha it will be a mess and I might screw up, but maybe it is worth a try ;-)

I will probably take the Metro from the Airport to the center so would there be any store that I can easily reach from the Blue metro line?

Thanks so much!

Hmm I'm really sorry to hear that. Unfortunately I can't help you cause I'm living in Macedonia which is in nothern Greece, but if Katia can't help either I'll ask some relatives who live in Pireus.

Thank you so much Katia! I had a great time!

Flew to Athens and took the bus to Patras (Well first to the bus terminal A). There we stayed for a while and later on went to Pyrgos by train and a beach close by. Had good weather and Patras is a very nice city as well!

The way back was a little worse, took me 17 hours, lol. But it was definitely worth it! Thanks for all the help and greetings!
