Of course 7 years are better than 50, but consider that in Spain junta lasted for 39 years... You know Greeks are rebels and free spirits , they can't live if you cut their liberties, so I think that even communism in Greece wouldn't last for more than 10 years, people would do something for it.
I have also another reason to dislike these people who created a chaos in my country. Do you know who was responsible for the turkish invasion in Cyprus??

!!! You invented that ideal, didn't you? Just saying that U.S. ideals of democracy and individual liberty borrowed very heavily from ancient Greece, as you probably know very well...
... sorry to distract

Yes, I know
And freedom stays in the determination of "doing something about it" when "it" is the obstacle to freedom.

I know... The tragic irony is that even if every nation considers itself as one spirit supposedly acting and feeling the same, the ones who mess up everything are from within that very nation. Most of the bad things countries suffer, they suffer from their own "sons". And that is d*amn real in every aspect and in every time.
@Jandros: Don't apologize for distracting. We are still talking about movies as you can see and as the title of this thread says. But as long as one of the moderators is here, I FEEL SAFE

Hehehe I’m not of this kind of people who say “We invented this, we did that”, it’s pointless if you consider that every nation has offered something. And speaking about democracies, do you really believe that a society with hundreds of slaves can be democratic? It is ironic but indeed Athenians were democratic even with many slaves, they laid the foundations of democracy. But other nations as you said ‘borrowed’ this first form of democracy and they improved it, they made it better (or worse depends on how people see things… ).

Every nation has some black pages in its history, Greece has lots of these black pages and I’m not so proud of it…

Heeemmmm I think we criticize the background of the movie (well we missed it a bit!), so typically we still discuss about movies, don’t we?

Life is a stage and we are all actors in the big "production". So, if we keep that in mind, we are always ON-TOPIC in this thread
So, Maria, coming back to our ...movies(lol): when I think of black pages in my country's history, what bothers me the most is the passivity of people as opposed to what you said earlier about rebels. Sometimes, no matter how much a rebel you are, things still don't change, but I believe you should at least try to do something. This attitude of: "we can't do anything about this, we take it as it is" is driving me crazy!!!
P.S. I have to go now, and I don't know if I'll be on again tonight, but tomorrow I'll be here to talk about movies again

Of course the last is all that you needed to say .... and of course you know that U.S. history also has the same black mark that you mentioned, and so much more recent in time! ... when humanity should have learned and known better. But ..... when will we ever learn?
But I think that's why so many people still make so many good movies, and I mean films with social commentary and significance. A lot of people don't want to see "problems" in theater, drama, but I simply call it "education".

Dya, whenever you return .... YES YES YES!!! You are SO right!! I can't remember who now, but one of my favorite statesmen said something like, "bad things happen only when good people stand around and do nothing." And I always admire the hero who might only have the courage to say something. And then we find out, maybe, that there are a million rebels who just need 1 courageous leader. History and the movies have a million examples of exactly that!

Did you guys watch Zohan? I couldnt decide if he wanted to mock Judaism and Israel or praise it. After the movie Click (in which I lolled on the floors), it's kinda silly although Click had less plausible scenario.

hmm Even though it's old as hell The song that I constantly hear around from La Factoria is "Perdoname" featuring Eddy Lover. That's the one that I believe is on the radio right now....I don't really listen to the radio much...must of the music that I listen to is underground....Cosculluela, Guelo Star, Mc Ceja, Eloy, Jking and Maximan....stuff like that.
The new single from Don Omar is "Diva Virtual - Chekea como se menea"....that's the latest track i've heard from him.
