Default Fall Out Boy lyric from EN to DE

You're Crashing, But You're No Wave

by Fall Out Boy

The D.A. is dressed to the nines

In the mirror he practices all his lines

To his closing argument twelve hearts beat in favor

I'm guessing that he read the morning paper

The headline reads "the man hangs", but the jury doesn't

And everyone's looking for relief

United States versus disbelief

Mothers cast tears on both sides of the aisle

Clear your throat and face the world

The verdict falls like bachelors for bad luck girls

Only breathing with the aid of denial.

Case open, case shut,

But you could pay to close it like a casket

Baby boy can't lift his headache head

Isn't it tragic? (Whoaaa-ooo)

He glances at his peers sitting seven to twelve stacked

On one to six the gallery is hushed

Boys in three pieces dream of grandstanding and bravado

The city sleeps in a cell notwithstanding what we all know

Hang on a rope or bated breath

Whichever you prefer

And everyone's looking for relief

A bidding war for an old flame's grief

The cause, the kid, the course, the charm, and the curse

Not a word that could make you comprehend

Too well dressed for the witness stand

The press prays for whichever headline's worse

Case open, case shut,

But you could pay to close it like a casket

Baby boy can't lift his headache head

Isn't it tragic? (Whoaaa-ooo)

Fresh pressed suit and tie

Unimpressed birds sing and die

Can talk my way out of anything

The foreman reads the verdict

In the above entitled actions we find the defendant...

Guilty...Guilty...Guilty...Guilty...

Case open, case shut,

But you could pay to close it like a casket

Baby boy can't lift his headache head

Isn't it tragic?

The D.A. is dressed to the nines --- Der D.A. hat sich feingemacht

In the mirror he practices all his lines --- Im Spiegel übt er all seine Züge

To his closing argument twelve hearts beat in favor --- als abschließende Meinung schlagen zwölf Herzen dafür

I'm guessing that he read the morning paper --- Ich nehme an, dass er die Morgenzeitung gelesen hat

The headline reads "the man hangs", but the jury doesn't --- die Schlagzeile lautet "der Mann hängt", aber die Jury tuts nicht

And everyone's looking for relief --- und jeder hält Ausschau nach Erleichterung

United States versus disbelief --- die USA kontra Zweifel

Mothers cast tears on both sides of the aisle --- die Mütter vergießen Tränen auf beiden Seiten des Gangs

Clear your throat and face the world --- räusper dich und steh der Welt gegenüber

The verdict falls like bachelors for bad luck girls --- das Verdikt fällt wie Junggesellen für unglückliche Mädchen

Only breathing with the aid of denial. --- Nur das Atmen mit Hilfe der Ablehnung.

Case open, case shut, --- Koffer öffnen, Koffer schließen

But you could pay to close it like a casket --- aber man könnte zahlen, um ihn wie einen Sarg zu schließen

Baby boy can't lift his headache head --- Babyboy kann seinen Kopf nicht heben

Isn't it tragic? (Whoaaa-ooo) --- Ist das nicht tragisch?

That's the first part

that's funny.. I just finished my translation for this one...
I think with "case" they do not mean Koffer but Akte (die Akte des Falles, um den es in dem Text geht)

I wasn't sure about the Babyboy part as well..
and can somebody tell us what D.A. stands for, I left that line in my translation because of this word

oh and I like your "casket" = Sarg part.. this is a good idea for it

Hi Steena,
I think you are right: case open, case shut means: Akte geöffnet, Akte geschlossen.

Casket means SCHATULLE oder URNE. Sarg in english is: coffin, as far as I know.

My english dictionary offers me District Attorney for D.A.
This is kind of a lawyer and I think it makes sence in this context.

Regards Tahira

yes casket is a Schatulle, but I thought that Sarg fits in there since they mean that the case will be shut forever

thanks for clearing the "D.A." part, it makes a lot of sense in this text if it's kind of a lawyer

Oh, you two are right, case should be better translated with Akte!

Also, this here may get better results for translation, as this song is about a certain person. SongMeanings | lyrics | Fall Out Boy - You're Crashing, But You're No Wave

I hope it helps, to understand the lyrics better

Good job everyone, I love it how you guys and girls put so much effort in translations!

Also, a quote from there:

The headline reads 'The Man Hangs'
But the jury doesn't.

Explanation:
Its saying how the final verdict was finding the man guilty. The jury had no problems agreeing on this, because a hung jury is when they don't all agree, so when its saying that the man hangs, but the jury doesn't it says that they all agreed he was guilty with out any argument.

But i don't know, how to put this in German?

Thank you lollipop, this is a good translation and of course it's helping a lot

I hope that you, spawnferkel, understand German since I also translated two of the explanations into German to make it clearer

But i don't know, how to put this in German?
word-plays have always been hard to translate.. as the German judiciary system doesnt have a jury, we have nothing that is 100% comparable to this
maybe simply explaining this line is best?

here's my try of the rest with the help of the explanation

He glances at his peers sitting seven to twelve stacked
On one to six the gallery is hushed
Der erste bis sechste ist aufgeregt
Boys in three pieces dream of grandstanding and bravado
The city sleeps in a cell notwithstanding what we all know
Die Gang ist hinter Gittern, ungeachtet all dessen, was wir wissen

Hang on a rope or bated breath
Am Seil erhängt oder den Atem angehalten
Whichever you prefer
Was dir lieber ist
And everyone's looking for relief
Und jeder sieht sich nach Erleichterung um
A bidding war for an old flame's grief
Ein harter Kampf für etwas längst vergangenes
The cause, the kid, the course, the charm, and the curse
Not a word that could make you comprehend
Too well dressed for the witness stand
Zu schick angezogen für den Zeugenstand
The press prays for whichever headline's worse
Die Presse betet für immer größere Schlagzeilen

Case open, case shut,
But you could pay to close it like a casket
Baby boy can't lift his headache head
Isn't it tragic? (Whoaaa-ooo)

Fresh pressed suit and tie

Frisch gebügelter Anzug und Krawatte
Unimpressed birds sing and die
Can talk my way out of anything
Kann mich aus allem rausreden
The foreman reads the verdict
Der Sprecher der Geschworenen spricht das Urteil
In the above entitled actions we find the defendant...
Guilty...Guilty...Guilty...Guilty...
schuldig

Case open, case shut,
But you could pay to close it like a casket
Baby boy can't lift his headache head
Isn't it tragic?

Default Wow thanks

Thank you all.
Now I get the meaning of this lyric in some parts.

But something like
>> die Schlagzeile lautet "der Mann hängt", aber die Jury tuts nicht
is nevertheless still incomprehensible for me.

I am a german and it is a little bit peeve that I can't get the hole sence.

Bye

Alexander

that's the line lollipop was referring to

besser?
