* in my first version I wrote "shed the steel" but I believe shed is more like "Tränen vergießen" (to shed tears) and I found out that "to mould" seems to be a more technical term...

concerning "bis ich ausgebrannt verlösche": it actually isn't two verbs but a verb (verlösche) and a participle wich is used as an adjective (ausgebrannt). this kind of describes a succession, i'd say: first it burns out (so it's still burning but kinda fading), then it goes out (stops burning). maybe a final connexion: because it burned out, it doesn't burn anymore. but you're right, it is hard to express this in english. i like this kind of analysing language, though.
"jemand hat die feuer brennen lassen" - since it's said that they burn deep into the night, i'd assume this means "left the fires burning" instead of "let". but this is interpretation though.
"jemand hat den heißen stahl vergossen" - "to mould" is more "in form gießen", so it really reflects a planned, artistic action. here, someone "didn't think about it for long", so maybe it is more the idea of spilling (accidentally) or shedding (intended). the prefix "ver" also rather points to this explanation i think.
oh, you can shed lots of things. animals often shed hair. of course you can shed blood or tears. but a mean employer can also shed jobs/labour (stellen kürzen/abbauen). you can even shed light or a burden. its a general term for loswerden, abwerfen...something like that.

By my opinion, the lyric should somehow as one poem. Through all of your translation, I can feel the beauty of this lyric.

"vergossen" actually comes from "vergießen" which comes from "gießen". "ver" indicates that something is done in vain (sort of ^^). "gießen" is a "strong verb" thus changes its vocal in the differnt tenses. it is "ich gieße" (present),"ich goss" (simple past) and "gegossen" (participle). the "ß" stands behind long vocals, "ss" behind short vocals, that's why this changes here.

Actually I think with "So nah wie Du" the singer wants to say "I wanna be close to you"
aha, so the complete sentence would be "So nah wie du war nur deine Zärtlichkeit" = Only your tenderness was as close as you were. Makes more sense to me
to answer your questions concerning the interpretation, nonisa:
i think they aren't together anymore. She misses him and thinks of the past. The relationship ended because he cheated on her ("Geh zu ihr!" -> Go to the other one!) but nonetheless she does not regret to have been with him. She thinks of the past relationship as a good time and she's sad that it ended that way because she is still in love with him.
To be honest this "so nah wie du" does imho not even fit in the german sentence very well. it's just a catchy phrase probably
