A lot of ancient words in this text, I've tried my best.. if anybody knows a better word for "Lanzenstöße", this would really be welcome.. since I finally decided to leave the "-stöße" aside and just go for "Lanzen"
and the whole lyrics are written in the past tense.. only the last stanza is written in present tense

beim Tanz die Glieder biegen.

schon fast als Sieger wähnte,
Nearly had won
sah er den schwarzen Ritter an,
He looked at the black knight
wie er am schwarzen Pfere lehnte.
How he was standing at his black horse
(if there’s a letter missing and they mean Pferde instead of Pfere)
"Willst du kämpfen oder warten!?"
“Do you want to fight or wait?”

und ehe er es sich versah
