Hi, I've translated quite a few songs (mainly by Die Prinzen) in my efforts to improve my basic German. It would be great if I could get some feedback on some of these to see how close I am. This is my attempt at Olli Kahn. Also there is a commentator who speaks after Olli in the middle of the song - I don't know if anyone can catch what he's saying as it's not in the written lyrics?

Thanks, as always! I've put your corrections into my version

Where I'm from is a longish story. I'm from Armenian extraction (hence name), born in Hong Kong, eduated in British schools (so first language English). As an adult, have lived in England mainly, for many years, but spent lots of the last year in Germany (near Munich). I taught myself basic German from an old American course of book & tapes, called 'Mastering German'. Then I worked through a BBC German beginners course on TV in Engalnd called 'Deutsch Plus'. Then I found a website that had lots of songs translated into English (german.about.com) & through there I worked through lots from Herbert Grönemeyer. And then I found a couple from Die Prinzen. And because I found them quite melodic & varying in styles, I started to try my own translations of their songs that I could not find translated anywhere else (using 4 online dictionaries!). Now I've found the allthelyrics website, I'm really happy to have the chance to get some feedback on my efforts

So here's the next one, if someone could look at this as well?...

Thanks again for the tips! Sounds like you're north of Munich. I'm to the south-west of it. And I guess Die Prinzen must be to the east, so between us we're making a full circle. Anyway I'll be sure to give a mental wave in your direction next time you're kind enough to correct my translation

Of these next songs from the ones I've looked at, I really like Das Nervt because the first time I heard it I was reminded of the sound of the Australian group INXS who I used to listen to quite a lot. Die Ossie Hymne, which sounds quite Beach Boysish, I also quite like for being unashamedly tongue in cheek

Yes of course you helped. And yes I use dictionaries a lot as I am a beginner in German. But with the 'alles Mögliche' line I didn't because I thought I knew what each word meant. I didn't know that it was a phrase & now that you have pointed it out I've checked it out & see that as well as 'all that is possible' which is the more literal translation which I took it as, it can also mean 'everything imaginable' or 'all sorts of things' That's why this forum's so great since when German speakers are kind enough to look at my translations they are bound see things that are too literal & not as you say, poetic enough
