Default Juliane Werding - ... Und Darum Herr Richter

    Hello to all

Another song I enjoy. I've given it my best shot. If there are mistakes please share you knowlege so I can correct them.

Juliane Werding - ... Und Darum Herr Richter
Juliane Werding - ... and that’s why Mr. Judge

    (man singing)
I stand here now before the high court

und trage mein Glück zu Grab.
and carry my happiness to the grave.

All das was ich über Jahre hinaus,
All that I over the years have,

erlebt und geteilt mit dir hab.
    experienced and shared with you.

The time was full of beautiful hours

and I separate myself from them unwillingly.

Mr. Judge, my knees become weak,

    wenn Sie meinen dazu hör'n.
when you my hear my reason.

Sie war zynisch und launisch, unglaublich despotisch
she was cynical and moody, unbelievably despotic

und Recht hatte immer nur sie.
and simply always had to be right.

    Wollt ich sie mal küssen,
If I wanted to kiss her,

    trat sie mich mit Füßen,
    she kicked me,

this way she always brought me to my knees.

    Der Wecker, Gemecker,
    The alarm clock,(the)nagging,

    der Milchmann, der Bäcker,
    the Milkman, the Baker,

die gingen bei ihr ein und aus.
that were with her on and off.

    Verschludert, verludert,
    shudder,the hussy,

    auf Diva gepudert,
    the sex goddess,

    regierte sie meist unser Haus.
She for the most part ruled our house.

    Ich durfte nicht mucken
I was not allowed to say a word

    und mußte mich bücken,
and had to bend (to her will),

das machte sie alles aus mir.
That's what she made out of me

    Und darum Herr Richter und
And that’s why Mr. Judge and

    darum Herr Richter
    that’s why Mr. Judge

    steh ich heute hier.
    I stand here today.

    (Man & Woman singing)
Dabei lieben wir uns noch so sehr,
At the same time we still love each other as much

    wie vorher, wie vorher.
    as before, as before.

Wenn so vieles, so vieles nicht wär,
If so much, so much wasn’t so,

would love not be so difficult for us.

    (Woman singing)
Half of that, what he says is not true,

was fällt diesem Kerl denn bloß ein?
    What's in his mind?

I did everything for him, how do I stand here now?

Ich find das von ihm sehr gemein.
    I find him very mean.

At the same time it was often so nice and so beautiful,

and separation from him I don’t want.

Herr Richter, sie werden trotz allem verstehn,
Mr. Judge, you will despite everything understand,

wenn sie meinen Grund dazu hörn.
    when you hear my reason.

    Er saß an der Theke,
    He sat at the bar,

    bei uns um die Ecke,
    near us around the corner,

die Kinder zu Haus mußten frier'n.
the children at home were cold.

    Vertrank ohne Pause,
    Drinking away without pause,

    bei jeder Sause,
    at each party,

sein Geld und sein letztes Gehirn.
his money and his last brain.

    Der Ärger am Morgen,
    The anger in the morning,

    den Kopf voller Sorgen,
    the head full of worries,

ne Frau, die sich durchbeißen muß.
a woman, who must struggle through.

    Der Bäcker, der Milchmann,
    The Baker, the Milkman,

die halfen mir dann und wann,
    helped me now and then,

    bargeldlos nur für nen Kuß.
    trading for only a kiss.

    Was mußte ich leiden,
    What I’ve had to suffer,

    drum laß ich mich scheiden,
    why I am getting divorced,

was machte er alles aus mir?
everything that he did to me?

    Und darum Herr Richter und
And that’s why Mr. Judge and

    darum steh ich heute hier.
that’s why I stand here today.

    (Both singing)
Dabei lieben wir uns noch so sehr,
At the same time we still love each other as much,

    wie vorher, wie vorher.
    as before, as before.

Wenn so vieles, so vieles nicht wär,
if so much,so much wasn’t so,

Would love not be so difficult for us.

Would love not be so difficult for us.

They were happy times so rich

and I separate myself from you unwillingly.

"ihr" in the second line refers to Zeit from the first line, so your indication of "you" is wrong here.
    I'd put it as:
The time was full of beautiful hours
And I seperate myself from it unwillingly
(This way you could also put "from them" refering to the hours, without loosing the general meaning of the sentence)

Mr. Richter, my knees will become weak,

As the court is already mentioned before, you also say Mr. Judge because I think that's what she means, the person's profession. Technically, it's also only "my knees become weak"

    Wollt ich sie mal küssen,
    Would she ever kiss me,

-> It's the other way around! "If I wanted to kiss her"

    trat sie mich mit Füßen,
    she kicks me,

    -> past tense

very hard always in the knee.

This way she always brought me to my knees

    Verschludert, verludert,
    I shudder,the hussy,

    There's no "I" here

    regierte sie meist unser Haus.
She for the most part rules our house.

    -> also past tense

das machte sie alles aus mir.
    I did all the compromising

I would have said "That's what she made out of me" though I like yours as well, it's not that literal but I think it fits the situation

would love not be so difficult for us.

Half of that, what he said is not true,

    -> present tense

was fällt diesem Kerl denn bloß ein?
what occurs just because of this guy?

    What's in his mind?

As I understand it "you" is permitted for "Sie", but not for "sie". However I used you here & the above line because it makes more sense, since she is addressing Herr Richter. If this is wrong please educate me.
Yes if you pay close attention to grammar (which was not done with these lyrics) the "Sie" with the capital letter stands for the formal way to adress a person. And you did the right thing in this case!

    Vertrank ohne Pause,
    Drinking without pause,
    bei jeder Sause,
    at each party,
sein Geld und sein letztes Gehirn.
his money and his last brain (cell).

Your translation is good but as you can see, the last line is missing something, and the thing you're missing is in the "ver-" of Vertrank - an additional word like "away" might solve the problem

    Hello Steena

Whew, that was quite a list. Thanks for taking the time to straighten me out. You know it didn't occur to me to look up Richter. I just assumed it was a last name. For my part I guess it's true what they say about assuming. Live and learn!

    Have a nice day, Macbard

Richter in deed is a common last name, but in the case I believe you should translate it

And of course you are welcome!
