Default Dschingis Khan - Hadschi Halef Omar

    Hello to everyone

Posted for corrections and suggestions. This was fun, Just like reading a book for me to see the story unfold. There is a video for this on Youtube if you're interested. I thought it was a pretty neat performance.
Here is a link if you want to listen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-aVr92R-dQ

Dschingis Khan - Hadschi Halef Omar

Sie zogen durch das wilde Kurdistan

They moved through the wild Kurdistan

    zwei
die dem Tod schon oft ins Auge sah'n.
    Sie ritten Seite an Seite
    waren Freunde fürs Leben.
    Hadschi hieß der kleine Mann

    Two
Who often had stared death in the face
    They rode side by side
    Were friends for life
    Hadschi was the little man

sein Herr war Kara Ben Nemsi.
    Sein Turban
der war viel zu groß für ihn

His master was Kara Ben Nemsi
    His turban
It was much too big for him

    sein Pferd sah aus
als könnt' es kaum noch geh'n.
    Doch wenn er kämpfte
ist allen schnell das Lachen vergangen

    His horse looked
as if it could hardly walk
    but when he fought
The laughter of his enemies quickly disappeared

    denn er war ein Mann
    ein Mann
    ein Mann
    ein Mann.

    Because he was a man!
    a Man!
    a Man!
    a Man!

    Hadschi Abul Abbas Ibn
    Hadschi Dawuhd Al Gossara

    Hey Hadschi Ho Hadschi
    Hadschi Halef Omar
    ...

Und wenn ihr Kopf schon in der Schlinge hing

And when their heads had already hung in the noose

dann drehte Hadschi schnell ein tolles Ding

then Hadschi knew ways to get out of it/rescue them

    und alle lagen am Boden
    er stand lachend daneben.
    Sein Prophet war Mohammed
    und Allah hat ihm geholfen.

and everyone was on the ground
He stood laughing next to them
    His Prophet Mohammed
    and Allah has helped him

Er schwang den Säbel wie ein Wüstensohn

He swung the sword like a Desert Son

er ritt dem Teufel und em Wind davon.
    Die Sehnsucht trieb ihn voran
    der großen Freiheit entgegen.
    Ja
    er war ein Mann
    ein Mann
    ein Mann
    ein Mann.

He rode faster than the devil and the wind
    the yearning drove him forward
    on towards great freedom
    Yes!
    Because he was a man!
    a Man!
    a Man!
    a Man!

    Hello

I'll check its video tomorrow. It sounds quite interesting and I always liked them even though it wasn't really my time (I was born in 86)

Enjoy the rest of your day, Macbard!

    Hi Cosmonaut

Thanks for the corrections. As you can see my search for the right words sometimes needs help.

Who Death already often looked in the eyes
    >> who often had stared death in the face (sounds better in my opinion)
Believe it or not I almost went with this but I got stubborn trying to stay too close to the lyrics.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
dann drehte Hadschi schnell ein tolles Ding
    >> then Hadschi knew ways to get out of it/rescue them (ein Ding drehen is basically what I've just written. It's a colloquial term you can't really know)
When I looked up "drehte" it referred to rotating, turning so I started thinking spinning around real fast with his sword and everyone was on the ground. Then "whirling dervish"popped into my head even though that has nothing to do with fighting. That's why I worded it that way. Thanks for the insight.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Und wenn ihr Kopf schon in der Schlinge hing
And if your head already hangs in the noose
    >> And when their heads had already hung in the noose
I kind of felt the tense was wrong there. Thanks for the correct words.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was talking to my son about the correction for the His Prophet and he said I should have capitalized Prophet as well so I did.

    Talk to you later, Macbard

Oh my god, I remember this song very well. One of the male singers is still a very famous song writer and producer: Leslie Mandoki.

    Hi Macbard,

my prophet correction was solely because, the way you had written it, it seemed to mean "he stood laughing next to his prophet" - I just wanted to point out that he, by no means, stood next to his prophet or even laughed at him

    Hello Cosmonaut & Tahira

@ Both - I like this song and Moskau & Dschinghis Khan also by them. Very colorful costumes on on the Youtube videos. The songs all have a similar style but I think they are just fun songs.

@ Cosmonaut - I knew what I meant but thank you helping me state it more clearly.
My son told me it was proper to capitalize all those word. I don't know but it doesn't hurt to do so either way.
