I could be wrong, but I think φιλιά means "kisses" (sing. φιλι) rather than "friendship" here

Yeah she's right. Φιλιά mean kisses. Friendship in greek is φιλία.

Greek-American; from southeastern Virginia. I know some Greek from listening to relatives and buying a few textbooks on my own, but I'm not even close to fluent (definitely a lot better at understanding than producing the language). Part of my family is from Smyrni, the other part is from various places in Makedonia

Well I did for two years in High School. Because I'm a college student right now, I don't really have a lot of time to devote to another class outside of school (that and the church in my college town is kind of small; I don't think they have a Greek school). I just study in my spare time now.

My family lived in Thessaloniki for awhile (one or two generations) but they weren't from there originally. Actually, nobody in the family remembers exactly where they lived before that (just that it was somewhere in Makedonia). Unfortunately these things get lost over time...
