"Ποιος ταξιδεύει στα μάτια σου;
Και ποιός ξαγρυπνά στο κορμί σου;
Μάτια μπλε στα μεγάλα ταξίδια σου
Θα'μαι εδώ θα'μαι πάντα μαζί σου"

TREN
ayrilik sonrasi kendimi vagonumda buldum,
bir hayat, bir bavulun içinde
ölü hayallerim,
aniden ben de itis kakisin icinde,
öylesi tanidik bir ses,
ismimi söylerken cigliga dönen bir ses,
ve tren hareket etti, sen yine uzagimda.
söylemek istedim sana
seni nasil da sevdigimi bagirmak istedim
ah keske becerebilsem
bir an hayatimi degistirmeyi,
camin üzerine yazdim seni sevdigimi
ve agladigini görür görmez
akmaya basladi gözyaslarim irmak gibi,
çünkü kalbim, gec kalmistin.
gecip gider sehirler ve istasyonlar
ama sen yanimdasin hep,
senin yansimani görüyorum, benimle konusuyorsun
bir yagmur, bir rüzgar gibi,
dönemecte inmek istiyorum
ama sesim dagiliyor,
inmek istiyorum dönemeçte
kimse duymuyor beni,
artik kayboluyor tren
bir günün isigi gibi.
söylemek istedim sana
seni nasil da sevdigimi bagirmak istedim
ah keske becerebilsem
bir an hayatimi degistirmeyi,
camin üzerine yazdim seni sevdigimi
ve agladigini görür görmez
akmaya basladi gözyaslarim irmak gibi,
çünkü kalbim, gec kalmistin.

ΤΟ ΤΡΑΙΝΟ ΦΕΥΓΕΙ ΣΤΙΣ ΟΚΤΩ
THE TRAIN IS LEAVING AT EIGHT
Has this song ever been professionally translated? The melody is so nice, I wonder how the lyrics is poetically. Can anyone provide any information on whom the original poem was written by and attempt a more careful translation?
The poem was written by Manos Eleftheriou. and the song was composed by Mikis Theodorakis. The translation above is perfect... although it was not translated by a professional interpreter.. well than again perhaps he is a professional, i wouldnt know, i nkow nothing about azimut, except that his translation is really good!!
"I like this place and willingly could waste my time in it"
The interpretor was very talented and has a true feeling for the poetic side of the translation. Of course there might be other ways to translate it, but I would have been satisfied with this one!
You misunderstand me. The translation above is very good and I believe it is accurate but as it appears, it is more like a literal translation. It tells you what the words in the poem mean but does not taste like a poem. That's why I asked whether there are any translations of this lyrics by a prominent translator or another poet?
Don't take offense at my words but we are talking about an immensely difficult job that requires ultimate professionalism. Would you trust your brain to anyone other than a brain surgeon?
I see there are some Turks here just like me. I was in Athens last summer and went to a number of Greek islands. I've found Greek music to be very similar to our own. I would like to ask you about a Greek vocalist named Aliki Kayalioglu. She has an excellent voice and she sang some very nice songs on Theodorakis Istanbul Concert tape. Did she bring out any albums of her own or did she continue to give concerts with Theodorakis? Could someone tell me what she has done in the 20+ years after the 1986 Istanbul concert?
Yeah Im Turkish too, and i also have a Greek family, though I cant remember the last time i came across something to do with Aliki.I ve just googled it and found out that she made a come back at THe Nazim Hikmet Awards ceremony..
I cant remember that 1986 concert too cos i was only a baby in 1986![]()
Anyway, I ll check out the online archives of turkish and greek newspapers to see if she recently released anything, I'll let you know...
"I like this place and willingly could waste my time in it"
Well I didn't take any offense, I just point out that the translation is good and interpreted in it's own way. Of course there might be possible to find a real poetic translation, but I don't know if there is anyone here to take that job. Since we now are talking about Theodorakis, a world-known composer, there might be some other translations out there. Anyway, good luck!
