the song that Aleksiou sang had the "smoking" bits

left out. These songs used to be politically incorrect ("απαγορευμένα") in Greece once upon a time. Anyway, there seem to be various versions of the song, referring to men and women. For your information, the "original" version of the song is written by rebetis Panos Tountas and sang by Rita Abatzi and it talks about the story of a woman trying to get the attention of a man. It is different by the "Erinaki" version you quote in your post both in words and thema (in your quote a man tries to get the attention of a woman). The original is called "Ferte preza na prezarw = Give me 'dash' to 'get fixed'"

. I shall translate the original version, more or less the same and you get the idea. The text is very difficult, contains many idioms, so I shall do my best.
(don't ask me good
brothers and sisters )
(why I am sad)
(A
burning inside the heart)
(I have and I wither)
(oh, give me 'dash' to 'get fixed')
(and hashish to smoke)
(because I love a
free-spirited man)
(with the loquat-coloured belt)
(but I try to get even with him, he doesn't talk to me)
(I feel pain when he watches me and he is laughing all the time)
(oh, give me 'dash' to 'get fixed)
(and hashish to smoke)
Η
(
The brave woman that has excellent taste)
(feels pain but she doesn't say it)
(and if she sings, you false
world,)
(do know that inside her heart is crying)
(oh, give me 'dash' to 'get fixed')
(and hashish to smoke)
(because I love a free spirited man)
OK?
