Hi, this is a beautiful poem by N. Lapathiotis and a song played by E. Arvanitaki.
If possible, I need translation, eyxaristò!

Ας είναι ωστόσο, τι ωφελεί γυρεύω πάντα το φιλί
/ as ine ostoso, ti ofeli yirevo panta to fili
let it be even so, what is the "use", I am always "searching" for the "kiss"

Στερνό φιλί, πρώτο φιλί και με λαχτάρα πόση
/ sterno fili, proto fili ke me lahtara posi
ultimate (final) kiss, first kiss and with so much "yearning"

Γυρεύω πάντα το φιλί, που μου το τάξανε πολλοί
/ yirevo panta to fili, pou mou to taxane polli
I am always "searching" for the "kiss", that many "vowed" me

Κι όμως δεν μπόρεσε κανείς ποτέ να μου το δώσει
/ ki omos den mporese kanis pote na mou to dosi
and yet, noone was ever capable to "offer" "it" to me

Ίσως μια μέρα όταν χαθώ γυρνώντας πάλι στο βυθό
/ isos mia mera otan hatho, yirnontas pali sto vitho
may be one day when I am "lost", returning once more to the "deep"

Και με τη νύχτα μυστικά γίνουμε πάλι ταίρι
/ ke me ti nihta mistika yinoume pali teri
and with (in) the night secretly, (we may) become yet again ... (a) "couple"

Αυτό το ανεύρετο φιλί που το λαχτάρησα πολύ
/ afto to anevreto fili pou to lahtarisa poli
this "undiscovered" "kiss" that I "yearnt" much for

Σαν μια παλιά της οφειλή να μου το ξαναφέρει
/ san mia palia tis ofili na mou to xanaferi
as if an old "due" of "hers" (that "one day") "she", may bring "it" back to me again

... it is my "under-standing", therefore that, the word "καημός" and all its "afferent context", in English it is "well interpreted" by the word ... "anguish" ... ... ... !!! ... ... ... *υ*

Yeap azim I agree,I just found the word καημός in another song and it took me about 2 hours (unsuccesfully also) to find some kind of word that could be near the meaning we give to that word.

Though nearly three years have passed, so this post clearly classifies as resurrection , I heard this song the other day and it really moved me.

For what is worth, it should be pointed out that the translation of this poem poses a major challenge for the translator, since it secretly contains the name of Lapathiotis' loved one, ΚΩΣΤΑΣ ΓΚΙΚΑΣ. It is appearent if you look at the initial letter of each line.

I believe Arvanitaki is one of the very few singers whose voice could portray well enough the passion and above all, the pain and sorrows communicated in this poem. One can only imagine how difficult it must have been being homosexual in the highly conservative Greek society of the twenties.
