My new homework

Translate the following conversation:

Elie. The bus leaves at seven. I am at my office at eight. I work until one o'clock after the noon. So I work five hours, from eight a.m. to one.
In the afternoon I work two hours. From three to five. On Wednesday and on Saturday we work only until twelve o'clock.
Andreas. Us, we start at nine in the morning. I leave home one hour before eight. We finish at two in the afternoon. We don't have work in the afternoon. After work (office) I go home. I have tea in the afternoon, at four. In the evening I go to the cinema.
E. So you work (plural) only five hours. From nine to two it is five hours.
What time does the cinema start, Andreas?
Α. At eight o'clock in the evening and it ends at ten.
Ε. Who was with you in the cinema the day before yesterday? Was it your friend from England?
Α. No, it was another friend. Not from England. This one is from here.


‘Ελλη. Το λεωφόρειο φεύγει τις επτά. Είμαι στο γραφείο μου στις οχτώ. Λοιπόν Δουλεύω ως τη μια μετά το απόγευμα. Δουλεύω πέντε ώρες, από οχτώ ως τη μια.
Το απόγευμα δουλεύω δυο ώρες. Από τις τρεις ως τις πέντε. Τις Τετάρτη και το Σάββατο δουλεύμε μόνο ως τις δώδεκα.
Αντρέας. Εμείς αρχίζουμε τις εννέα το πρωί. Φεύγω στο σπίτι μια ωρα πριν τις επτά. Τελείωνουμε τις δυο το απόγευμα. Δεν δουλεύμε το απόγευμα. Μετά την δουλεία πηγαίνω στο σπίτι. ‘Εχω τσαι το απόγευμα τις τέσσερις. Το βράδυ πηγαίνω στο σινεμά.
Ε. Λοιπόν εσείς δουλεύουμε μόνο πέντε ώρες. Από τις εννέα ως τις δυο είναι πέντε ώρες.
Τι ωρα αρχιζει το σινεμά, Ανδρέα;
Α. Τις οχτώ το βράδυ και τελείωνει τις δέκα.
Ε. Ποιος ήταν με εσένα στο σινεμά προχτές; Ήταν ο φίλος σου από την Αγγλία;
Α. Όχι, ήταν άλλος φίλος μου. Όχι από την Αγγλία. Αυτός είναι από εδώ.

Translate into Greek:

1. I don't know where I will be in one year.
2. After the lesson I'm going home.
3. They start at eight o'clock and they finish at one.
4. The banks open at nine o'clock in the morning.
5. Where are you from? (informal)
6. From Athens.
7. Two weeks ago my friend was here.
8. Yesterday what was the day like? It was a nice day.

2. Μετά τα μαθήματα πηγαίνω στο σπίτι

5. Από πού είστε;
6. Από την Αθήνα.

Noon=μεσημέρι, afternoon=απόγευμα
- από οχτώ ως τη μια. -> από τις οχτώ ως τη μια.
- Τις Τετάρτη και το Σάββατο δουλεύμε μόνο ως τις δώδεκα. -> Την Τετάρτη και το Σάββατο δουλεύουμε μόνο ως τις δώδεκα.
- Αντρέας. -> Αντρέα.
It’s vocative
- Εμείς αρχίζουμε τις εννέα το πρωί. -> Εμείς αρχίζουμε στις εννέα το πρωί.
- Φεύγω στο σπίτι μια ωρα πριν τις επτά. -> Φεύγω από το σπίτι μια ώρα πριν τις επτά.

Please could someone explain why these two are used?
I understand that dates are in the accusative when stating "when something is" but why not:

I guess I don't understand why the "σε" preposition is being dropped when referring to the first of the month only?

I frequently heard/read "καλή χρονιά!"
and I'm a bit puzzled? Is it just that this phrase is
legacy and no longer grammatically correct (despite its

female aspect ?

and finally I've seen the use of οι χρόνοι in masculine plural

I think that it has to do with the cardinal and ordinal νθμβερσ, cause in the first phrase you said "Την πρώτη Νοεμβρίου" which is ordinal and in the second "στις δεκαπέντε Αυγούστου", which is cardinal (you could also say "τη δεκάτη πέμπτη Αυγούστου"). It's like the hour στη μία η ώρα (you don't say: τη μία η ώρα!!). Of course I'm not so sure cause I've never thought about it and they don't teach us these details at school, we say it correctly but we don't know exactly why does this happen. Anyway, that's what I think about that.

First of all let's take the female word "χρονιά" which is so confusing to you. The explanation is very simple, they have a slight difference in the meaning. Xronia means:
1) the period of one year
2) a school year (from september to June)
but xronos has an abstract meaning, it could mean:
1) an indeterminable duration (έχεις χρόνο για μια βόλτα;=do you have time for a walk?)
2) the period of time in which something has to be completed (βιάσου, ο χρόνος που μας έδωσε τελειώνει=hurry up, the time that he gave us is running out)
3) the period of one year (πηγαίνω στο χωριό μια φορά το χρόνο=I'm going to the village once a year)
4) (in plural) specific period of years, an epoch (αρχαίοι χρόνοι=ancient times)
5) (in plural) age (όταν είχα τα χρόνια σου, δούλευα από το πρωί ως το βράδυ=when I was at your age, I was working from the morning to the evening)
6) grammatical category, tense (ποιοι είναι οι χρόνοι του ρήματος;=which are the tenses of the verb?)
* Xronos has two types in plural: oi xronoi & ta xronia.

A synonime to these words is etos which means:
1) the complete rotation of Earth around the sun/one year/12 months etc.
2) age (πόσων ετών είσαι;=how old are you?)

I'm afraid that it's polytonic greek keyboard and we write with monotonic one, it might be confusing for Nira cause it has three accents and two spirits. So if there is simple-monotonic keyboard add that one, cause you won't ever need to use polytonic. I have both keyboards but I need it for my studies.

Thank you so much lollipop for the guide , but my pc doesn't show me the option of polytonic or simply-monotonic keyboard ... oh, the world doesn't love me T_T
