Exclamation Cash reward for help identifying this song!!

I will honestly send $$$ to whoever helps me with this one.

I heard the song on Brazilian radio in 2000. The station specialized in alternative/independent music--those facts might help limit the genre and approximate the release date of the song.

The song was sung in plain english by either an American or British band. The lyrics were very dark, sad, depressing. Specific lines (as specific as my memory permits) were: "thoughts of suicide"..."walking through my shattered [broken?] mind [thoughts?]"

The delivery of the lead singer was unique...it was a male voice that almost sounded like the lead singer of Canned Heat (you know, Goin' Up the Country, On the Road Again--although it was not him). It was a high-pitched voice, and the lines were not so much sung as they were spoken in a staccato-like, forlorn way.

After each verse, the chorus consisted of an angelic female voice singing in high tones over the background music. I don't remember much of the instrumentation--my reception wasn't all too great. I listened hard after the song for an artist name, but my portuguese at the time was lacking, and all I heard was the announcer say something to the effect of the song being called "Brooklyn Speaks" by the band Argent (I thought it may in fact be the band Argent of "Hold your head up" fame, but those two pieces of information have proven to be red herrings in my mind...I believe hindsight has falsified some of my memory concerning the song, although the line "thougts of suicide" was in the song, without question)

I have searched and searched online for the song based on the info I have, and all I can ever find is intense goth-thrash about suicide and shattered minds...the song was very minimalistic, strange, and unnerving without trying too hard.

I hope someone has heard it and can help. Any leads will be appreciated, and like I said, if someone tells me the song or clues me into it, we will work a reward out--this has honestly bothered me for that long.

    Cheers, and thanks.
