OK, its going around in my head, but I cant come up with the title or artist. I know I dont have all the words right but there's enough here I think for someone to figure this out. Soulful Ballad type song fromt he 60's or 70's:

Thanks! The title, Mercy, Mercy, Mercy was the key. I haven't heard the Queen Latifa version, but it was a cover. I plugged the title into a search and found that the actual version I remembered so well from the past was done by
"The Buckinghams"...... Who also did "Kind of a Drag" and a few other popular tunes from the dark ages.
