    Default 80s R&B ballad?

This one's driving me crazy. I think it's from the 80s. I think it is a female R&B singer--I was thinking Diana Ross, but couldn't find any clues there. It's slow- to mid-tempo. The title is three syllables, and is repeated several times in the part of the melody that I've got stuck in my head (I think it's the chorus). The (incorrect) phrases that I keep coming up with are "deja vu" and (even weirder) "Tresemme", so I think it might kind of sound like one of those. There is only one lyric that I can kind of clearly remember, but Googling it didn't help. Since I can't "type a melody", I'm going to do my best to describe it.

Dum da-dum (this is the title of the song, the notes ascend, kind of staccato)

Three beat rest, I think I recall a descending quarter note "percussion" sound, kind of like that Popcorn song? I think this percussion is repeated between all the lines.

Dum-da-dum, da dum, DA DUM, da dum dum dum... The "da dums" are all the same syncopated kind of rhythm. The capitalized "DA DUM" is a much higher pitch than the rest. I think the last three notes are the title again.

There are two more lines that follow a similar meter, but I think the melody varies a bit each time. I believe each line ends with the title again.

Now since none of the above is probably helpful at all, here's my best clue, because I think I remember the lyrics of the last line. "I can remember the time, I can remember the place, dum da-dum." "Dum da-dum" is the title again, and the melody here mostly descends.

If this helps, I went to a site that says it can identify a song if you hum it, and it kept thinking this song was "Baby Got Back". That sure doesn't sound like the song in my head, but perhaps they have some melodic similarity that I cannot discern.

It would probably be more helpful if you could hear me try to hum this song (although I don't have the melody 100% either). Any way to do that?

    Thanks!
    Joe

    Default Never mind

I finally came up with it, after remembering more lyrics. It WAS called "Deja Vu", which I had decided was wrong, and it was by Dionne Warwick.
