Smile can anyone identify this song from late seventies?

I know this is not much to go on, but I would be so grateful for ideas of who the artist may have been or title of song. The memory of this melody has haunted me for years.

The only lyrics I can remember go something like this: In the shadow of the faded light nothing in sight nothing in mind.........carnival show......the more you lose the more you find.......take a bite from the apple of life...
I'm not sure these are completely accurate.

I heard it on the radio way back in the late 70's, around 76, 77. I don't think it made the top 40. It was sort of stark and haunting, with I believe a faint saxophone in it, with some mechanized sounds, sort of clicks and ka-chings. The vocals were soft and sounded british to me. I am not sure but the title may have been something like, "Love me tonight" or "Love you tonight" because I think some words like that were repeated in it. I'm not sure if you would call it jazz or rock. I remember finding it sort of eerie and fascinating, like a city at night.

Any ideas at all would be appreciated, I want to see if I can find out if I'm remembering it accurately. Thank you.

It's called "Lucky Seven" by Chris Squire off his solo album "Fish Out of Water".
Chris Squire is also the bassist for one of my favorite groups, Yes.

In the shadows of the fading light
Nothing in sight, nothing in mind.
NOthing gained when you're feeling restrained
The more you look, the more you find
Take a bite from the apple of life's not as bad, as its right, as its
right, and I think you could be,

    Lucky tonight

By the fates that drive us on
Upon the sea we swiftly sail
In the wake of the carnival trail
The more we try, the less we fail
You and I, the more we strive in our search for truth, love and honesty
    could be,
    Lucky tonight

    >From the trees by the silvery sands
To the ice of the golden midnight lands
Runs a thread of the tears that are shed
With laughter on the other hand
Keeping up with the plans and the schemes, chasing dreams, hard to tell
what it means, but I think we could be,

    Lucky tonight
Them that can, do; them that can't... memorize Artist and Title
