Bill Withers- Give Me The Beat Boys
Day after day I'm more confused
But I look for the light through the pouring rain
You know that's a game that I hate to lose
Now I'm feeling the strain
Aint it a shame?
(Chorus)
Oh, give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll
And drift away
Give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll
And drift away
Beginning to think that I'm wasting time
I don't understand the things I do
The world outside looks so unkind
I'm counting on you
To carry me through
(Chorus)
And when my mind is free you know melody can move me
And when I'm feeling blue the guitar's coming through to soothe me
Thanks for the joy that you've given me
I want you to know I believe in your song
Your rhythm and rhyme and harmony
You've helped me along
You're making me strong
(Chorus)
(Repeat chorus 2 times)
Now now now won't you take me?
Oh oh take me
Fly high...
hey man!
ur a star truly appreciate it- was killing me
You're most welcome; excellent tune!
Nice find logan1
I was stuck on Harry Nilsson's "Everybody's Talking at Me"
I'm going where the sun keeps shining
Thru' the pouring rain,
Them that can, do; them that can't... memorize Artist and Title
Aren't those the lyrics to "Drift Away" by Dobie Gray?
Well, written by Mentor Williams and made famous by Dobie Gray of "The In Crowd" fame. But covered by many others including the Rolling Stones though not officially released.

Now that ya'll jostled my fading memory, I stand corrected. It was Dobie Gray who had the original hit "Drift Away" with those same lyrics. I don't know the story behind Bill Withers taking the song and changing the title. Either it's very interesting or perhaps he never actually did it and it's one of those "urban myths". Kudos to Grendl2000 and Johosefat. Too bad you couldn't answer the question before I did.
It turns out you are correct, Logan. Bill Withers did record the song under the title "Give Me the Beat Boys." Unable to discover why, however.
Yea, I have the Withers song. Now I'm curious and can find the story behind him recording the song under a different name. Hope someone can help on this.
