two songs, female singers, probably recent

I heard two songs in the store yesterday i thought i might like, so i jotted down what seemed like good lyrics to google, but alas got no hits for any combinations of the following i could think of.

Song 1 has something along the lines of: "the day is long" and "night is falling down on you" i think in the chorus.

Song 2 goes: "home is the last place that i want to be" or "wanna" i suppose

Both are by female singers. I was really surprised when i got no hits for them.

Anyone able to help?

For the 1st song, try "Into the West" by Annie Lenox (from Return of the King)

For the 2nd song, I was going to suggest you try the followings:
"Dreams Are Not My Home" by Rosanne Cash
"Home at Last" by Aja

However, I think I found the lyrics to the 2nd song on the following blog:

Unfortunately there is no mention of the artist or title. You try posting on the blog and see if you get a response.

The second song is "What Can I Say" by Brandi Carlile, and the lyric is "alone is the last place I wanted to be."
