It was titled "99 Luftballons" at it original German recording. It was then titled "99 Red Balloons" for english language release. It Became a major hit of German recording artist Gabriele Susanne Kerner (aka Nena). The writers of the song were Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen (music), Carlo Karges (German lyrics) and Kevin McAlea (English lyrics).

Someone needs to go back and repost the original question. To paraphrase, the question asked who wrote the song 99 red balloons. That's why I went to the extent of including the writers. Something definitely happened to the original post. It appears shaunflannery went in and edited the original post to the extent of title and content. My partners in crime Mumbles and atmaster then responded to the edited or new question; not the original one. Though they're not 100% accurate, check-out the post, edit, etc. times. I raise you 2 hundred.
