need help on mid to late 90's song

i heard this song a few years back, but never found out the name or
who sings it.. its a male voice similar to marc cohn

lyrics i can remember are something like this

some verses are like:

this was a song that was played on "lite fm" stations and i even heard it once
on an am station. as for the album, that i don't know. im shure it's an american
singer.

he strongly sounds like marc cohn, or at least in that style of singer. i have searched cohn's lyrics and i can't find it among them.

it may also be a very late 80's song. i have spent a few years now searching in
google and before that alta vista ( from time to time whenever i thought of
this song ) and i have never come across any lyrics or hint at who does it.

it's a slow moving love song.

slight gravely whiskey soaked voice probably in the styles from marc cohn
to grayson hugh.. at least thats how i hear it in my head when i remember it.
