Who sings this song

Recently traveled in Europe and kept hearing a song on the radio by a male vocalist or a male group. The chorus refrain keeps repeating, "It was the hardest thing I ever had to do (say)" The vocalist sounded a little like the guy from Green Day. Moderate tempo song, nice guitar, and judging by the amount of airplay it got I assume it's new or recent. It's NOT the song by 98 degrees...

Can anyone tell me who this might be? I loved the song!
