Default No lyrics, just an instrumental. But....

..it has been driving me crazy these past few years trying to find out who recorded the song and what it is called.

I think it got into the British Top Twenty around about the mid-sixties, and was an atmospheric piece which featured a Hammond organ. I suspect the song was a "one hit wonder" and for some reason I have The Pedders (I don't think it was them after research) or someone like that.

I wish I were able to transcribe the tune as I do know that much - I'll try and give you some idea using the "stave" below

    --------------------------------- 1
    --------------------------------- 2
    --------------------------------- 3
    --------------------------------- 4
    --------------------------------- 5

The first note is on line 3, the next note on 2, next 4, then 3, then 4 then 2 this simple note sequence is followed by a jazzy sounding organ, followed again by the notes.

Sorry this isn't much to go on, but hopefully someone might be able to point me in the right direction!

Good thinking - or even Green Onions by them.

Green onions was going be my next guess, i thought "time is tight" was maybe more atmospheric, but then thats just my opinion

I'm waiting to hear "wrong answer" LOL

Sorry guys, it's no one as obvious as Booker T.

There are six notes at the beginning in fairly slow time (dah, dah, dah, dahdahdah... then organ flourish)

    Different approach now:

How's about the music that was the theme tune to Equinox on UK TV?

Tocata De Fugue in D minor - Bach - not sure who played the Equinox version though but the tune that I mean can be heard here.
    Music: Johann Sebastian Bach

edit: after checking around, it looks like I may have been wrong about which TV program this was the theme to.

ps. Yes - there was a minor hit single of it.

Scott - sorry to disappoint you.......

I'm sure the group were something like The Peddlers or The Settlers, something like that.......

The beginning dah, dah, dah, dahdahdah - was played on strings and not the organ

I haven't heard this one by the Peddlers and can't find it online but they do an instrumental called Pentathalon [spelled like that] which, from what I've read has an organ playing in it.

It was on their "Freewheelers" album, and also the "How Cool Is Cool" album.
May be worth a try - though where to listen without buying I dunno.

Ok, sticking with "The Peddlers," they had a record at number 27 in the charts in sept 1969 called "Birth" unfortunatly, like FAB scott i haven't been able to find a sample.

Hopefully the name will wing a bell with you though!

Not Birth either as I was able to listen to virtually everyting they had recorded on iTunes - I don't think it was the Peddlers, just something like it.

I can't think of any specific tunes by them, but could it have been Yes or Vangelis? [or Aphrodite's Child]
Or was it even earlier than that?

Pity you don't have a sample.

No it wasn't Yes or Vangelis. As I said they are pretty obscure and I'm sure the group is "The (something)"
