Default Really Hard Identification with few lyrics

Okay, I really doubt that I have enough information to have anyone identify this, but I'm going to put out what I do know about it, just in case.

I'm looking for a specific song that I think might be considered cabaret, or jazz, or maybe lounge ballad music or something like that. I'm not really sure what time period it is. It could be back to the 30's as far as I know, or 15 years ago.

I can't remember any specific lyrics but the singer is talking about the different parts(items - I think a picture frame) in a room and how it makes them remember things, maybe a girl, I think. And he may mention a picture or a window or something.

I know, it's really vague, but if someone happens to know it, they might be able to figure it out from just this. Thanks in advance. Here's hoping.

I think that's a pretty popular lyrical theme. One song that springs to mind is "Traces" by the Classics IV, also recorded by Gloria Estefan.

Faded photographs, covered now with lines and creases
Tickets torn in half, memories in bits and pieces
Traces of love, long ago, that didn't work out right
    Traces of love

Ribbons from her hair, souviners of days together
The ring she used to wear, pages from an old love letter
Traces of love, long ago, that didn't work out right
Traces of love – with me, tonight

I close my eyes and say a prayer
That in her heart she'll find
A trace of love still there somewhere, ohhh oh

Traces of hope in the night
That she'll come back and dry
    These, traces of tears
    From my eyes
    Ohh oh oh ohhhh

Hmm, I don't think it's the one I'm thinking of. I listened to a couple of recordings of that song, you mentioned, and it doesn't sound familiar at all.

    Thank you though.

I know if I heard it again, I would recognize it. The one I'm thinking of has a much less contemporary sound to it.

Ok, here's a much older song with the same theme: "These Foolish Things." It's been recorded hundreds of times - Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Rod Stewart being three of the better known versions. Many versions edit the lyrics.

    A cigarette that bares a lipstick’s traces
An airline ticket to romantic places
And still my heart has wings
These foolish things remind me of you.
A tinkling piano in the next apartment
Those stumblin’words that told you what my heart meant
    A fairground’s painted swings
    These foolish things
    Remind me of you.
    You came,
    You saw,
    You conquered me
When you did that to me
I knew somehow this had to be
The winds of march that made my heart a dancer
A telephone that rings but who’s to answer
Oh, how the ghost of you clings
    These foolish things
    Remind me of you
    First daffodils
    And long excited cables
    And candle lights
    A little corner table
And still my heart has wings
These foolish things remind me of you
    The park at evening
    When the bell has sounded
    The pier in france
With all the gulls around it
    The beauty that is spring
    These foolish things
    Remind me of you
    How strange,
    How sweet,
    To find you still,
These things are dear to me
They seem to bring you near to me
    The sigh of midnight trains
    At empty stations
    Silk stockings thrown aside
    Dance invitations
Oh how the ghost of you clings
    These foolish things
    Remind me of you
    Gardenia perfume
    Lingering on a pillow
    Wild strawberries
    Only seven francs a kilo
And still my heart has wings,
    These foolish things,
    Remind me of you
    The smile of garbo
    And the scent of roses
    The waiters whistling
    As the last bar closes
    The song that crosby sings
    These foolish things
    Remind me of you
    How strange
    How sweet
    To find you still
These things are dear to me
They seem to bring you near to me
    The scent of smoldering leaves
    The wail of steamers
    Two lovers on the street
    Who walk like dreamers
Oh how the ghost of you clings
    These foolish things
    Remind me of you

Well, that's definitely closer to the type of song it was.

And that is a very pretty song, but it's not it.

I keep remember something with a window and the street below in the lyrics.
