    Sorry for vagueness.

Heard it on the satellite oldies station at the grocery store early in the morning.

Likely from the late 50's/early 60's. It's one girl singing over a very repetitive catchy piano melody, which plays the same few notes in a high key, then in a low key, then high, and so on. It sounds like a melody that a beginning piano student could pick up easily. Definitely a prom-type song. Not quite a loud, explosive girl-group song with wall of sound or other vocals or anything like that.

Lyrics like, "Johnny stay with me," or "Johnny don't go away"

Allmusic has been no help at all.

Sounds like "Johnny Get Angry" by Joanie Sommers. Could be "Johnny Angel" by Shelly Fabares, but the first one fits your description better.

Sure. You can find it on Vol. 5 of Eric Records' "Hard to Find 45s." Pretty good series for those odd songs you barely remember.
