Default 70's Reggae Tune, anyone?

OK, this tune has been banging around in my head for days & days!
It's a reggae tune from the 70's I think - and the lyrics go:

I am what I am, I am one of the people,
I sleep & I dream & I cry,
I am what I am, Yes I'm one of the people,
I'm happy to live till I die.

That's all I can remember - I dunno WHO did it, or the title & have searched thru countless reggae albums & compilations to no avail.
Anyone help?

I know exactly the song you mean - it's similar to Jimmy Cliff's Wonderful World, Beautiful People.
I've been searching all over and asking everyone but no luck yet - still trying.

Isn't it terrible when you KNOW that you know...when you don't... am I making sense? Probly not!

Yep, I've searched Jimmy Cliff - I thought it might have been Barry Biggs, but although it's sung 'high', it's not quite as falsetto as Barry's records.... it is just SO frustrating!

Thanks for the help though.... Julie.

wait, so what did this guy sound like exactly?? It's ben a while since i've heard my old school reggae albums, so I can't hear Jimmy Cliff in my head. The older reggae artists I'm thinking of are : Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs, Black Uhuru, maybe Morgan Heritage...

Hi - Well, I've gone through umpteen Jimmy Cliff songs & the song does sound a lot like one of his - but it's not one!
As for exactly what he sounds like... hmm... a bit Labi Siffre - a lot Jimmy Cliff!
Blimey, I'm not being much help, but I've been looking again today for about 2 hours again - I have to get lucky soon!

Thanks for trying though!
