Help: find a french singer

I saw this singer performed on the TV in between 2003 & 2004.

He was about 50+ with white long beard, the song that he sang which really impressed me sounds like opera to me. I can't tell what type of music is that, but I'm sure it had been sung in french.

I have been looking for this song since 2003 ( I guess it's in 2003) and I had no chance to ask others. I had once met a young french man, and he told me that could be Pavarotti, but I'm sure it's not Pavarotti.

After all these years, the song and the image of that singer had been faded from my memory, I could only recall less and less information about it.

so I wish somebody here could help me to look for that singer, as his song and voice is really amazing, I just frozen when I listened to him.
