Question Recent(?) alterni-pop something or other - what is it?

OK, this is driving me nuts. Went into the lab where I get my film developed about a week ago, the radio was on, and it was a really catchy tune - sounded a little like Sugar Ray in terms of the use of acoustic guitar, but the singer was obviously someone else, I remembered enough of the words that I thought I'd be able to find it via Google after I got home, but no luck. What I thought I heard goes something like this:

    "Five years we've been together,
    so you know...(something)"

I believe that was repeated a few times, but the refrain had a long, drawn out "dooown", something like that in it... The singing there was a bit reminiscent of Third Eye Blind, though again, I'm sure it wasn't them either.

I know it's not much to go on, but I'm hoping someone here has some ideas, at least, since I've had zero luck in my own efforts to reserach this... Thanks in advance,

Sugar Ray only used acoustic guitar on a few songs... They're actually quite a hard rock/punk band

    Hi Luke,

    Thanks for writing.

When I said that the song "sounded a little like Sugar Ray in terms of the use of acoustic guitar", I was actually referring only to those Sugar Ray songs where an acoustic guitar was used. Examples of such songs include Every Morning, Falls Apart, and Fly. We agree that the comparison makes no sense if interpreted any other way.

I'd assumed people here would be sharp enough to pick up on that, especially given that these are among the most popular / well-known songs by Sugar Ray (in addition to being the first songs that came to mind when thinking about what I'd heard). Apologies if my initial message was unclear or imprecise.

With that said, let's not get distracted by details irrelevant to the issue at hand: Identifying the unknown song in question. Any thoughts? Anything at all would be most welcome!

    Best wishes,

No, I do know who Sugar Ray are and have done for a number of years but your initial line suggested you didn't and believed they only specialised in acoustic songs

    Hi Luke,

Very good - thanks for clarifying, and for allowing me to correct this mistaken impression! Let's hope someone here has some ideas...

Didn't mean to souind arguimentitive but I've had a number of posts directed at me recently suggesting I don't know what the hell I'm talking about and it's quite unfair to be honest as I have a vast musical background.

    Hi Luke,

I can sympathize. While I won't claim to have a vast musical background, no one likes being treated like they're ignorant or uninformed.

Back to the matter at hand, if you do come up with some ideas regarding this song, that would be great. If not, I will not take it as a sign of any shortcomings on your part - nothing to prove here, since I obviously have no idea what it is either

    Best wishes,
