Cool Solved: Help me out here

So I heard this song on the radio. It's a man singing this story-telling style song (reminded me of Walking In Memphis by Marc Cohn a bit). Anyway, I only remember snippets of the lyrics...

"No one would take care of my old man so I dropped out and did just that" (or something to that extent and...)

"For once I felt like I belonged"

That last one seemed to be a big theme of the song. Any ideas?

Try "Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman (or David Usher or 3 Elements or The Wilkinsons or M.Y.M.P.)

See my old man’s got a problem
He lives with the bottle that’s the way it is
He says his body’s too old for working
I say his body’s too young to look like his
My mama went off and left him
She wanted more from life than he could give
I said somebody’s got to take care of him
So I quit school and that’s what I did...

...And I had a feeling that I belonged
And I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone
