Question 60's song feature in ITV's HEARTBEAT

Hi,
Does anyone recognise the song with the following lyrics:

The wind is crying to the evening
Your mind is empty but still thinking
The night has robbed you of your being
Your tired eyes are sick of weeping
You try to stop yourself from seeing
You search your memory for a laughter
You find your fears are coming much faster.

I've heard this in two different Heartbeat episodes, "Blood Sports", and "Taking sides", but the episode guides do not credit this particular song.
Assuming music is contemporary, it would place it around the mid 60's. Sounds a bit like David Essex, but probably too early for him.

Regards
