Song about making dad proud

I have been looking for a song for years now. I think it is about 5 years old, there was a version where he sings something like "everything I"ve ever done I hope I made my father proud". Something like that. I think the group was new wave or alternative.

Please help. It reminds me of my son and how he tries to please me. Thank you.
