Need help please: leaves, falling, accelerating

Okay, this has been driving me mad off and on for the past month.

There was a song that had a fairly good number of plays on Sirius 21 Alt Nation in 2007. Unfortunately, I do not recall the artist or song title.

I also do not fully remember the lyrics. I just remember key words from it. It was a more mellow song. A softer alternative (think a little "harder" than Secondhand Serenade or Dashboard Confessional) song.

I think it mentioned "ground control"
accelerating (or a synonym) - toward the ground

I know this is not a lot to go on. If it was not a new release in 2007, it was a newer song though as I first heard it played then and have not heard it in a long while.
