Default help with classic rock song

    hi there,

i heard this song on the radio a few months back. it's sort of glam with a high pitched vocalist and has a chorus of what i believe is something like "dance, (girls name here), but don't tell me". it's about a "dancer" who a guy likes but doesn't seem to approve of it. the chorus repeats a lot, i think.

i'm guessing late 60s/early 70s, more or less.

    thanks

I first thought of the song "Dance with Me" by Orleans (1975).

Is the context of the song that you are looking for about the boyfriend of an exotic dancer/stripper?
If so, try "Main Street" by Bob Seger

I remember standing on the corner at midnight
Trying to get my courage up
There was this long lovely dancer in a little club downtown
I loved to watch her do her stuff
Through the long lonely nights she filled my sleep
Her body softly swaying to that smoky beat
    Down on Mainstreet

Also try "Clair de Lune/Ballerina" by Styx
