Question Solved: Half remembered song from childhood- 60's?

    60's or 70's?

What I can remember of the lyrics: ... taking a trip up to Africa (something), the weather is fine...

and there was a very 'carnival' or theatrical feel to the song? If anyone knows what I'm thinking of please help, it's making me nuts.

This was WAY back in my kid-hood, other songs I remember from that period were Crimsom and Clover, and, Sugar Sugar (the Archies, yeah, I blush, but it's what I remember)

it's sung by a man, and when I say 'carnival', I mean there is lots of horns or 'brass'?? I remember it as very 'bouncy' (but perhaps everything was in an era that gave us the Archies (lol)) I was about five. I think..

That's it!! Huh, that's quite a modegreen, lol.

Wow, you are awsome. I discovered 'shannon' was Marty Wilde, and now
I feel a bit closer to my dad who I lost about that some time (we used to sing it together)

    Thank you so much.
