I heard it again in a diner tonight (but couldn't really hear the lyrics because everyone was talking)

I heard something in the chorus along the lines of "without the...for you and I, without the...of the night" but I'm not sure if that's exactly what he said.

The singer sounds kind of like Howard Jones, the chorus sounds kind of similar to "Everlasting Love" by him (I actually initially thought it was the same song, but after listening to everlasting love, it definitely wasn't that) although I can't say whether or not it is Howard Jones singing since every time I hear the song it's always drowned out by other noise. I know it's definitely from the 70's or 80's. Can anyone help me out?
