Late 80s/early 90s song, PLEASE help identify!

Hi, I hear this particular song on the soft rock station here sometimes, but do not know the artist or title. I believe it is from the early 90s or late 80s. There may or may not be saxaphone playing in the background, and the video is basic: A guy with a slightly long haircut, brown and wavy, and a beard, singing into the camera. He may have been a one hit wonder. It is driving me crazy that I can't figure this song out. The lyrics I know are part of the chorus, I think:

Tell me whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy (held long)
The stars in the sky
