Default Help with a 70's song plz

Hi - I have a very old song in my head I have been trying to track down for years - maybe someone can help...

I guess the era was about the 70's

What I can remember, although not necessarily all in one line - are the following lyrics

"Oh Charlie/Charley, you were an angel, born of my imagination, my only hope and inspiration..."

None of the lyric search engines seems to have come up with anything concrete,

    Any help would be appreciated,

    Many thanks!

    Default Charly

Hi, yes, awesome song! I dont know the artist, but I'm pretty sure it's South African.

These are the lyrics as I can make out, mail me for a copy...

    And I called her Charly,
She fell out of the sky
    as the winds of July
    were blowing, Charly

    All alone in the city,
    town without pity.
    She was fragile,
    yet so pretty.

    Like a lonely sparrow,
    broken heart, broken fears,
    broken wings, broken dreams,
    I'll call her Charly

    She was ready to give
    and, unforgiven,
    only grateful
    to be living.

    Shepherd of loving,
you were all that I had prayed for,
all that my heart and soul were made for,
    Oh Charly

    You were and angel,
    born of my imagination,
    my only hope and inspiration,
    Oh Charly

    Lovely Cinderalla,
she came back from the cold,
from my heart, from my soul,
    I love her, Charly.

With my world built around her,
    could I doubt her,
    or begin to
    live without her?

    Shepherd of loving,
you were all that I had prayed for,
all that my heart and soul were made for,
    Oh Charly

    You were and angel,
    born of my imagination,
    my only hope and inspiration,
    Oh Charly

    And I called her Charly,
She fell out of the sky
    as the winds of July
    were blowing, Charly

I was husband and loved her,
    but then my Charly
    spread her wings out
    for another.

    Shepherd of loving,
you were all that I had prayed for,
all that my heart and soul were made for,
    Oh Charly

    But I was foolish
to believe that I could have you,
No man on earth could ever love you,
    Oh Charly

    Shepherd of loving,
you were all that I had prayed for,
all that my heart and soul were made for,
    Oh Charly

    You were and angel,
    born of my imagination,
    my only hope and inspiration,
    Oh Charly

I definitely know this song and have it on an LP somewhere.

I'll find it and upload it for you if you like.
