But you should distinguish between those who really want to learn Arabic and others, so for the first group you should stick to Arabic rules as well as grammars otherwise, we'll teach them sth wrong.
It's also for you, I think you're still in school, so it's also a good way to improve Arabic as well

نغمة : هي الفاعل ، و تكون مؤنث مجازي غير حقيقي
لذلك يكون الفعل (كان) جائز التأنيث
فيمكننا ان نقول :
كانت هناك نغمة أو كان هناك نغمة
