Hello, I have a question.
It's a line from a song by Oomph! (Tief in dir), it goes:
Ich bin deiner Macht erlegen
I've seen it translate in four different ways:
- I'm your power to kill
- I have surrendered to your power
- I'm your surrendered power
- I'm the one who gives you energy
Opinions?

I'd chose the second That's closest to what it wants to say.
The first is so, so wrong, the third changes the meaning though it gets all the words right and the fourth is completely wrong.
If you want a fifth translation I took "succumb to" to fit the meaning of "jemandem/etwas erlegen sein"

Wow, you can't imagine how helpful that was! I've wondered about this for a few months but every time I searched for the song new meanings kept appearing for that line, now I finally know and your translation (using "succumb to") is definitely the best one .

I also agree that "succumb to your power" is the best translation

There you go

Halli Hallo!
Dear Steena, the second line's missing; here's my suggestion for it but you may improve it of course:
how will you learn if you never try remember if you try you might get some where you never know
Wie wirst du lernen, wenn du es nie versuchst? denk daran, wenn du es versuchst, könntest du etwas finden wo du es nie erwartet hättest.

Hi there!!
Literally speaking, "hallochen" would be "little hello", but of course that doesn't exist in english, so it'd be better to translate it only as "hello" as Tahira said. Note however that the ending "-chen" always gives the meaning of "small/little":
-Haus (house)----->Häus chen (little house)
-Hand (hand)------>Händ chen (little hand)

Hehehe, tja! Dear Steena, your comment reminded me of when I first heard the band Die Toten Hosen: I was just starting to learn "Guten Tag, mein Name ist... usw" so I asked my teacher about the name of this band, and when she said "The Dead Trousers" I had a laugh attack

OH, and me when I started school for foreign languages (ages ago) I was listenting that time to bands like Dead Kenndys, Sex Pistols, The Clash and so on, and I was translating for me their lyrics in to german. And so I learned a lot words/vocabularies which are not used in daily talk.
And sometimes when we came across a weird word (during the lesson) my teacher used to ask to ask me "this time from the Sexpistols or Dead Kenndys".
But I was alway curious, that´s the way I found this forums.
IN another thread we had the expression of "Leiche im Keller" which is in english "Skeleton in a cupboard", I like this expression so much, it always reminds me of a forgotten lover in ones bedroom´s cupboard. LOL
