About this:

H καρδιά μου χτυπά στην Ελλάδα μέσα σου

You said it should mean: My heart beats in Greece within me.

So, shouldn't it be :

H καρδιά μου χτυπά στην Ελλάδα μέσα μου ?

The first sentence is correct. The second one is also correct, but I dont know why... I don't like it, it's something that I would never say.

You can also say Η σκέψη μου είναι εκεί στην Ελλάδα, μαζί σου [=My thought is there in Greece, with you]

Edit: I read again the first one and I don't like the mesa mou part. I think that Η καρδιά μου χτυπά στην Ελλάδα sounds better.

Η καρδιά μου χτυπά στην Ελλάδα, μέσα σου.
The comma, is necessary, so as to retain the meaning of the phrase.

μέσα μου = within me
but I think you'd like to say that your heart is beating within somebody else's body, so
μέσα σου = within you

Hey, Fidelitas, if you try without giving up, you will definately learn. Remember that the most important of all, is to speak greek, with other greeks (preferably) and ask as many things as you can. No matter if you make mistakes, this is the only way to learn faster. Of course grammar is necessary, so as to learn speaking the language correctly, but this cannot happen at all (speak greek) if you don't try to say something to others!

Hi,

I'm learning Greek. So I tried to write Greek in Latin characters.
Can anyone tell me if this is correct? And can someone give me the english translation of the second text?

1)
Σ' ευχαριστώ, που ήρθες πάλι
S’ efaristo, mou irthes pali

Αγάπη μου μεγάλη
agapi mou megali

Σ' ευχαριστώ, από τα βάθη της καρδιάς
s’efaristo, apo ta vathi tis kardias

Σ' ευχαριστώ, μ' ένα μου δάκρυ
s’efaristo, m’ ena mou dakri

Που 'ναι γεμάτο από αγάπη
Pou ‘nai gemato apo agapi

Σ' ευχαριστώ, που ξέρεις και
s’efaristo, pou xeris kai

Να συγχωράς
na sighoras

2)
Μου λείπεις, είσαι εδώ μα πάντα λείπεις
Mou leipeis, eisai etho ma panta leipeis

Είσαι έρωτας αλήτης που όλο πίκρες με κερνάς
Eisai erotas alitis pu olo pikres me kernas

Μου λείπεις μια ζωή μ' εγκλαταλείπεις
Mou leipeis mia zoi m’ egklataleipes (?)

κι αν μου λες πως μου ανήκεις
ki an mou les pos mou anikeis

τότε μη με τυραννάς
tote mi me tirannas

@Fidelitas

Δ, δ --- Θ, θ

You can distinguish between these two letters, while writing in latin script thus:
Δ, δ -- will be written as th
Θ, θ -- will be written as 8 (because 8 looks like θ)

I believe that you already know the difference in pronounciation.

About latin script of greek words,

one can write it as he/she wishes. Others want to ascribe the correct pronounciation, which inevitably causes some difficulties while reading. For example, if we want to write the word υπάρχεις in latin, having in mind the pronounciation, we would write iparhis. But it's more difficult for greeks to understand immediately what this word says, because the eye is used to read
yparxeis which optically looks more like
υπάρχεις

However, regarding the latin script, as with other languages, the alphabet of which is not latin-based (i.e. cyrillic), there are no fixed-standard rules.

I hope this is clear enough

hehehehe more times I make the same mistake as well! Don't worry
Well, there is an interesting survey(?) that says, that the human mind, can read normally a sentence, even if the words contain the correct letters in absurd order, as long as the first and last letter is correct. I was astonished to find out that I could actually read such a sentence.
So I guess this is not such a serious mistake!

Boubou,
Thanks! I do see the difference. And its true yparxeis looks more like υπάρχεις . I think I would choose also to write it that way. But than I would pronounce it wrong I guess.
But I made some progress today!
Thanks Boubou and maria!!

If you wanna say 'whatever' in Greek:
is it ο, τιδήποτε or o, τι? Or are both correct?

Correct:
οτιδήποτε AND ό,τι

because whatever = οτιδήποτε = ό,τι

Please, mind that there is no such thing as ο,τιδήποτε in greek.
Also, mind that
(οτιδήποτε) ό,τι = whatever
i.e.
λέει ό,τι θέλει // he says whatever he likes

ότι = that
λέει ότι θα πάει // he says that he will go

The difference between the two words is important, because it can specify the meaning of a phrase. Most greek, don't know the difference and make mistakes.

Yeah the difference between ό,τι and ότι I knew. I read it on the post 'learning Greek language'. Very interesting by the way! I learned a few things today :d

Do you live in Greece? Where?

I'm planning on going back next year in may. probably alone, most friends have a serieus relationship etc... I'm alone so... I'm not gonna wait, life is to short anyway. So if I have to go on my own I ll do that. I speak alot of languages so that wont be a problem I guess
And I really wanna go to Athens someday. I think its an interesting city!
