It's never been called emoscreamo as long as I've been alive but then again, I don't watch MTV with it's "we'll call it anything to make people watch our programming."

I was either emo (emotional hardcore) or screamo (emotional hardcore with screaming), never the two together...

trust me... I'm a gynocologist

I agree to an extent that 'emo' and 'screamo' are separate genres, but you have to admit that there is a lot of overlap. I mean, some bands only do the tiniest bit of scream in some of their songs, so I wouldn't classify them as screamo, eg. My Chemical Romance, Brand New, Senses Fail.

I'd only call bands screamo if scream & throat work were the predominant feature in their songs, eg. I Killed The Prom Queen, Shadows Fail, Atreyu.

And emo is such a broad genre... like two bands can be considered emo and can have pretty different sounds.

Lol. To spare myself the confusion, I just call them both 'alternative rock' cos that covers pretty much everything from emo to grunge to death metal...

Actually. "alternative rock" was stuff like

Smashing Pumpkins, Alice In Chains..... stuff that not grunge but not metal...

I dont want to look argumentitive but I have seen emo and screamo come and go (and believe me, both are dead to the wall now) and know the difference between the two...

...ior do I? Fashioncore is **** no matter how you slice it

Oh and no, "alternative rock" does NOT cover death metal, "death metal" does - the clue is in the name - ROCK and METAL - two different things even tho' they are similar... god, I hate to be right sometimes

But then again what constitutes right and wrong? Anything and everything in the world is open to individual interpretation, and thus one person's 'truth' could completely conflict with another's. So while you believe you're right and I believe I'm right, we're really both right in our own minds. That's good enough for me.

Actually, I know what I'm talking about, it's not opinion, it's experience as I've lived through the old emo and the new watered down carp emo

I'm not talking from the eyes of NME opr Kerrang! I'm talking through the eyes of Luke Elwick - Me, the guy who knows what he's talking about.

I am sorry to say that times change and with that the genres do to match what is being released. There are now that many sub groups within a genre that it is now difficult to know what goes where and a lot of the time it is down to how somebody hears and interprets a song as to where they place it. Also I believe there is a lot of confusion just down to the artists not knowing where to place themselves and mixing their styles. That however is just my opinion, I am not claiming to be right and I am not claiming that this is fact, just an opinion.

Butn then again, only marketting people and those with the lack of free will believe those sub genres

they're basically the same thing but newer...

Like people who claim Shadows Fall are screamo have never ever heard of Slayer or speed metal/hardcore before...

Eyes Set To Kill is pretty good, so is Saosin.
and I know like, two people have said Alesana, but seriously. Check them out.

You guys do know that bands can fall under many genres, right? 'Cause it seems like hardly anyone is getting that...
buttt whatever.

Yes but you do know that some of us are over the age of 15 and don't need to make new genres up for the sake of trend

Default wow wowowowowowo

you guys need to get out of this ****, first of all, i had to just make an account to reply to this thread. i found this peice of **** threat looking for a legit screamo forum. and you guys know nothing about music. literally, none of you listed and ACTUAL screamo OR emo band. not one of you knows anything how ****ing pathetic. this is why people don't know what real music is because you can't refer anything true to their genre.
you ****ing idiots, silverstein, sksk, underoath??
what the **** is that bullshit?
that is all metalcore bullshit. fortunately, underoath is influenced by Converge.
which is hardcore, not that you have ever listened to real hardcore obviously.
if you guys want to be the people you think you are then i will point you fags in your skinny jeans and eyemakeup in the right direction.
for starters, don't bother listening to emo, you won't like it, unless you can listen to cap'n jazz.
or you can combine screamo and emo and get emo violence or whatever bullshit
but for screamo look up (on your shitty ***** myspaces)
:::::
neil perry
saetia
kodan armada
takaru
envy
amanda woodward
daitro
enoch ardon
kidcrash
la quiete
ampere

also, emo is not defined by the ****ing lyrics you idiots.
it's all about the sound, screamo is played as loud as the vocals, high tempos, rad chords, usually cool picking skills for intros and outros. the way the guitars are played etc.etc. it's all about the sound, has nothing to do with the lyrics
so stop being ****ing idiots and learn your music, stop listening to stupid kids with their fake *** poser ****, and no matter what you say to reply to this **** (i wont read it) and also, it's wrong, i guarantee you it's wrong. don't even try telling me i'm wrong, once you figure out what emotionally charged hardcore punk is, and what it broke up into you will figure it out, till then, start on those bands. you're welcome.

No it's not, Emo stood for EMOtional hardcore and the lyrics were a high factor that stood alongside how the songs were written - Hardcore was about unity and family, Emo was about poetry, lost lost and friendship...

Screamo is emo but the choruses are screamed... Screamo was a term coined to make fun of emo bands who thought they were Agnostic Front, it wasn't an affectionate term but just like "punk" (which originally meant a young, male prostitute) the fans of the genre took it in and used it for their own gains.

so stop being ****ing idiots and learn your music, stop listening to stupid kids with their fake *** poser ****, and

1. If you're not going to read our replies, how are you going to know we're wrong?

2. If you're so set against being educated, that's filed under ignorance and if you're ignorant, why are you a part of the hardcore scene?

3. Why come on here just to argue (because, no matter how much you squeal that you were looking for some lyrics or whatever, for all intents and purposes, that's exactly what you did)

Wow, you're really rebellious with your lack of knowledge about anyone on here and your technichal grasp of the English Language.

1. I got my knowledge from listening to Punk/hardcore/emo/thrash metal as a child because in those days it was more or less the same thing, fast, aggressive, hardcore... I do not listen to the bands listed as emo nowadays because I don't class them as punk at all, I don't class Green Day in the same box as the Clash, Buzzcocks or Sham 69... I listenhed to music, I learnt the bands and I followed them, I did not show myself to be a stupid imbicile arguing with people when I knew nothing, I learnt and my knowledge grew...

2. I use Myspace but to class me as some floppy fringed idiot is showing just how immature and ignorant you must be. Mine has each band I've ever played with and every person I value as a musician and I have known (not just for chufty points) and spoke to/drunk with regularly...

3. Every inch of knowledge is correct from my experience with bands first hand and I have learnt and I do not argue with people on the internet (unless they are spouting complete sh** about something they know nothing about - Like you.). Because as every good old school punk will tell you - KNOWLEDGE IS POWER AND KNOW THINE ENEMY

If you hate something, have a legitimate reason why
If you have to swear, do it in a controlled and mature way
If you believe something is wrong - say why, not just "bcos it is, lollllz"

Not bad for a 30 year old thrash fan, is it?

Anyone heard the band 'I hate myself' ?

I dislike most emo music, but they are reaaaaaaaaally good.

It's hard to come across their songs though. The song 'Conversation with dr. suessicide' has great lyrics.
